Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering is Hiring an Inspector Near Tallahassee, FL

CEI Inspector/Engineer Intern

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC (ICE) is expanding its team in District 3. We are actively seeking a CEI Inspector to be a vital part of our growth. Position Summary: The CEI Inspector is responsible for monitoring daily activities of construction for conformance of client/contractor work on various projects to ensure materials and workmanship meet specifications. This position will perform engineering inspections activities such as construction observation and field sampling of asphalt, concrete, and earthwork for construction applications. The inspector will record daily notes for the engineering staff.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbally and in writing)
  • Responsible for: Receiving general supervision from and assisting the Senior Inspector in the performance of their duties.
  • Responsible for familiarity with the Florida Department of Transportation’s Procedures covering project related duties and proficiency in the computer programs necessary to perform those duties.
  • Cooperate with supervisors, contractors, subordinates, and the Department in the performance of duties.
  • Review plans, specifications, provisions, submittals, shop drawings, and other documents to ensure contractor compliance.
  • Monitor daily contractor and subcontractor construction activities.
  • Document all daily events affecting the project.
  • Inspect materials for conformance with specifications and submittals.
  • Coordinate and perform the testing of materials and work.
  • Photograph and log observed contractor work, samples, test results, and job conditions into a tracking system.
  • Monitor and inspect work zone traffic control devices and plans including daily modification of TTC (MOT) devices. 
Position Requirements:
  • Inspector – High school graduate or equivalent and two years of experience in construction inspection, one of which shall have been in roadway and/or bridge construction. Candidates must have the ability to obtain the required certifications and qualifications within six months of hire.
  • Intern – Graduation from an engineering, civil engineering technology, or construction management program along with certification as Engineer Intern / Engineer in Training. Candidates with an E.I. or E.I.T. must have the ability to obtain the required certifications and qualifications within one year of hire.
Cerificatoins:
Must have upon hire:
  • A valid Driver's License is required with a safe driving record and must complete a pre-employment screening.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Must have the following within grace period:
  • CTQP Final Estimates Level I
  • FDOT Intermediate MOT
  • Nuclear Radiation Safety
  • Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Training and Certification Program for Inspectors and Contractors.
  • CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I
Must have the following as required by the scope of work for the intended assignment on the project at the time of NTP:
  • CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level I
  • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
  • CTQP Pile Driving Inspection
  • CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection - Required for inspection of all drilled shafts including miscellaneous structures such as sign structures, lighting structures, and traffic signal structure foundations.
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level I

  • 40-hour work week with office hours from 8:00am-5:00pm, allowing 1 unpaid hour for lunch each day. Occasional overtime may be necessary dependent on project deadlines, which is compensated according to company policy.
Physical Demands: While working in the office, this position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Must have visual acuity to recognize/change/add precise details on CAD drawings.
During fieldwork, the position entails moderate physical exertion, encompassing walking, standing, bending, and ascending stairs or ladders. The employee may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Fieldwork exposes inspectors to various environmental conditions, including but not limited to loud noise levels, dust, dirt, and temperature fluctuations. Inspectors must adeptly navigate construction sites and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.
