Florida Forest Service is Hiring an Inspector Near Tallahassee, FL

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

A high school diploma or its equivalent.

Requires possession of a valid Class E Driver License.

Preference will be given to those with experience in the care, management and husbandry of livestock including equine or poultry.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

This position has regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Section 60L-36.003, Florida Administrative Code, and Chapter 112.313, Florida Statutes.

Willingness to respond to emergency duty, whether called day or night. This emergency duty may include natural disasters or animal disease outbreaks.

Willingness to be deployed from your assigned headquarters for extended periods of time (up to 30 days).

Incumbent must pass a pulmonary function test with medical evaluation, must undergo and pass regular respirator fit-testing, and must wear a respirator when required.

Will be subject to requirements of the proper use of appropriate respirator.

Incumbent must wear appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) when required.

Incumbent must be willing to work during the weekend and holidays as requested.

Occasional travel required.

Must reside in required county(ies) throughout employment in this position.

Some alternate work hours required to accomplish duties and responsibilities.

The headquarters for this position is negotiable withinHardee and ManateeCounty.

JOB DUTIES :

INTRODUCTION : The primary duties and responsibilities of an Agriculture and Consumer Protection Inspector (ACPI) are to enforce the provisions of state and federal law regarding animal disease control for the protection of Florida’s agricultural industry and public safety.

Additional duties include emergency preparedness, Emergency Support Function (ESF17) and assuring the quality of agricultural products prior to their entrance into the marketing channels.

In accomplishing these duties, the employee must cooperate fully with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) personnel and others engaged in related activities.

The incumbent is expected to demonstrate, model and reinforce the department’s fundamental values of professionalism, commitment, integrity, innovation and excellence in all interactions with coworkers and the public.

The ACPI is responsible for technical and specialized work that involves a variety of animal health programs within an assigned geographical area.

The following duties and responsibilities are assigned to this position :

Conducts animal disease program activities relating to the inspection, control and testing of livestock and poultry to detect animal diseases and ectoparasites that can pose a threat to the state agriculture economy and impact public health, including : general animal health inspections, collection of samples, premises inspections, promote animal official identification, issue and release of quarantines, educate animal owners about biosecurity, and assists veterinary medical officers (VMO) with inspections and testing.

The ACPI ensures quality and marketability of Florida’s livestock by developing herd health plans and investigating animal disease complaints.

The incumbent works independently and proceeds on own initiative and judgement within guidelines established by the supervisor and division policy and procedure.

Properly uses livestock equipment and performs routine maintenance.

Verifies permits, official certificate of veterinary inspections and movement documents. Verifies livestock official identification devices, conducts animal disease investigations, performs all National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) testing requirements and completes documentation.

Visits isolated herds and quarantined animals and conducts follow-up inspections. Conducts inspections of equine premises, Cervidae premises, and feral swine holding premises;

issues movement permits and distributes educational materials. Cleans and disinfects vehicles, equipment and premises that are contaminated by disease organism or as a precautionary measure.

Prepares and distributes reports in electronic format on daily activity. Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies and equipment and processes necessary duty reports.

Operates and maintains department’s vehicle.

Conducts activities relating to the emergency preparedness of livestock and other animals including collection of information for all animal premises and recording this information on emergency management database.

Coordinates and maintains contact list for Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and ESF17 within assigned county.

Ensures compliance with state statutes and department regulations regarding garbage feeding to swine. Conducts inspections of garbage feeders;

issues, enforces and releases quarantines; issues permits.

Participates in workshops and training to continue education of livestock disease eradication programs.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
