Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering is Hiring a Geotechnical Field Technician Near Virginia, VA

Geotechnical Field Technician - Virginia Beach, VA
Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC (ICE) is seeking a self-motivated entry level Geotechnical Field Technician to join the Geotechnical Engineering Team in Virginia Beach, VA to support various heavy civil construction and transportation projects throughout the Southeast. We currently perform deep foundation testing and geotechnical engineering services on bridge and pier projects, large heavy civil construction projects, port expansions, and on military bases throughout Hampton Roads and Virginia. The Geotechnical Specialist will work under the guidance of the Geotechnical Engineer and will be primarily responsible for pile monitoring on infrastructure projects. The Technician will be trained to perform work for a variety of geotechnical projects, to include but not limited to, pile monitoring.
Position Responsibilities
  • Responsible for learning and performing pile monitoring and a variety of other field foundation and geotechnical testing under the supervision of the Geotechnical Engineering Manager.
  • The main area of work will be located in Southeast Virginia
  • Maintain organized documentation of files, drawings, logs, and construction submittals.
  • Proactively communicate with Geotech group, other disciplines, clients, and subconsultants.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of 1 year of geotechnical experience preferred but not necessary.
  • Must have experience using a computer and be willing to learn commonly used software.
  • Willing to learn about job cost, scheduling, safety, and construction concepts.
  • Strong communication skills are expected, both oral and written.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
  • ICE is a drug free workplace.
Physical Demands
  • This position requires minimal lifting of up to 60 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Hand and eye coordination adequate for computer data entry, operating camera equipment, and operating instrumentation equipment
  • Ability to travel and work at sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperature, at times for long periods.
Travel or Environment Requirements
  • Visually observing and differentiating details of pile markings
  • Recognizing sound, tone, and pitch; speaking and writing clearly and effectively.
  • Adjusting to interruption and changes.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Working in hot, cold, and noisy work areas; standing, and walking when visiting job sites.
Expected Hours of Work
  • This position will be a full-time position.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  • Some night and weekend work may be required to supervise site investigations.
