Denton County MHMR Center is Hiring a Training & Development Specialist Near Denton, TX

Under the direction of the Training & Development Manager and within federal, state, and local guidelines assists with planning, organizing, and conducting educational training programs.

This position is a provider for numerous training courses including crisis prevention and intervention training to staff utilizing knowledge of specified training and effectiveness of methods in group facilitation, lectures, and demonstration. This position also provides other staff development training, e.g. ASIST, NEO, CALM… involving curriculum facilitation through in-person or virtual mediums. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Education, Training and Experience (including licensure and certification)

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in human resources, organizational development, education, health and human services or a related field and a minimum of one (1) year of training or classroom instruction is required for the position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE OR OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • All job specific training must be completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Must maintain a valid Texas driver's license, auto liability insurance and a driving record acceptable to the Centers insurance requirements.
  • ASIST Trainer Certification will be required.
  • AS K Trainer Certification will be required.
  • (Prevention Management of Aggressive Behavior (PMAB) with renewing certification every two years
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) every two years by standards of Training Center (Denton Regional Medical Center)
  • First Aid every two years by standards of Training Center (Denton Regional Medical Center)
  • Defensive Driving every year
  • TCRMF van driver training every two years
  • Maintains all emergency intervention training according to Denton County MHMR (DCMHMR) every year.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of training procedures and techniques; of education principles, practices, and techniques; of learning management and learning content management systems, of group processes, group dynamics, and interpersonal relations; and of instructional and curriculum design.

  • Skill in oral and written communication, in instructing others, and in using a computer and applicable software.
  • Ability to formulate learning objectives, to develop training objectives, to assess the effectiveness of training, to assess training needs, and to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must obtain and retain certifications as required to be a Center instructor.

Essential Duties

Training & Development: Provides training according to Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) and Center rules and procedures. Must obtain and retain certifications as required to be a Center instructor. Compliant in all staff development training. Maintains all emergency intervention training according to Denton County MHMR (DCMHMR) every year.

  1. Provides instruction for verbal and physical Prevention Management of Aggressive Behavior (PMAB) intervention to staff members at least once a month.
  2. Provides instruction for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to staff members at least once a month.
  3. Provides instruction for emergency and non-emergency first aid to staff members at least once a month. Provides instruction for assigned Defensive Driving curriculum.
  4. Provides instruction for TCRMF van driver training once a year.
  5. Maintains all emergency intervention training according to Denton County MHMR (DCMHMR) policies and procedures.
  6. Successful completion of all staff development training as required for position.
  7. Research data and information to update current curriculums and implement to trainings. Delivers training with highest level of professionalism in all phases of training.

Clerical: Performs administrative work in support of Training & Development programs such as training requirements, credentialing, due delinquency, employee transfers, TB test, staff onboarding, or staff development.

  1. Is aware of and implements all of HR and T&D policies and procedures.
  2. Maintains Record of Class Roster and informs T&D Manger of any discrepancies.
  3. Asist and verify completed training certificates are uploaded so they reflect properly in LMS (Relias).
  4. Completion of all CPR and First Aid cards.
  5. Pull Training Delinquency Reports for supervisors and administrators.
  6. Send out credential-ready emails.
  7. Maintain and upkeep function of LMS (Relias) that automates 30-day passed training emails.
  8. Maintain and upkeep function of enrollments and attendance and early class reminder emails. Currently run through Sign-up Genius.
  9. Collaborate on the bi-Monthly HRD training calendar. Collaborate and coordinate the opening of all classes in the training system.
  10. Communicate the Training Calendar with outside contractors and ensure they can utilize in-house training.
  11. All emails and voicemails are returned within one (1) business day or escalated to the appropriate supervisor.
  12. Provides back up to the clerical duties of the Training & Development Coordinator.
  13. Provides courteous, professional services at all times. Reviews opportunities for cost saving initiatives and presents to management team.
  14. Completes filing no longer than two weeks of being received in T&D.

New Employee Orientation: Prepare NEO facilitation. Orientation provides the new employee with concise and accurate information about the center, encourages employee confidence and helps the new employee adapt faster to the job; contributes to a more effective, productive workforce; improves employee retention; and promotes communication between the supervisor and the new employee.

  1. Prepare New employee Orientation welcome packet (front folders, training checklists, training calendar, first-week agenda, org chart, emergency system sign-up, VPN, HRIS sign-up options, welcome email, binders)
  2. Co-facilitate NEO (welcome, Agency Overview, Trauma-informed care, work email set up, e3 system set up, Relias overview and set up)
  3. Collaborate with new employees to organize Onboarding tasks such as TB test.
  4. Ensure New Employees are aware of training schedule and classes needed for credentialing.
  5. Facilitate connection between new employee and appropriate team member during first week of employment.
  6. Keep track of staff's training within their first 30 days of hire, send reminder emails of training needed.

Learning Management System (LMS)

  1. Responsible for maintaining information in the Relias system. Responsible for updating all personnel changes, updates and corrections into the system and notifies all appropriate departments and other agencies as necessary.
  2. Relias information is tracked daily and accurately.
  3. All errors are corrected within one (1) business day.
  4. HRIS reports are monitored for usefulness and accuracy regularly.
  5. All documentation is forwarded to the Training & Development Manager in a timely manner.
  6. Reset assessments in the training system for staff.
  7. Reset passwords and assist staff with accessing and utilizing the training system.
  8. Participates in the planning and development of specialized training, staff development, and continuing education programs. Researches, develops, reviews, and assesses training programs and materials, and recommends modifications as appropriate. Delivers training in a classroom, distance learning, or e-learning environment. Makes recommendations to supervisor for updates and new training as needed.
  9. Researches specialized training, staff development, and continuing education programs for courses given at the center. Make modifications to any training as approved.

Perform additional duties as deemed necessary by department supervisor within designated timeframes.

  • Provides additional Human Resources Services as needed accurately and timely.
