City of Lewisville is Hiring a Senior Plant Maintenance Operator - Plant Maintenance (Hiring Incentive: $1,000) Near Lewisville, TX

Provides maintenance support for both Water and Wastewater Plants, including pump and lift stations and other areas within the distribution and collection system. Performs both preventative and reactive maintenance to plant facilities to maintain operation, including, but not limited, to the removal and repair of pumps, blowers, generators, belt presses. Experience with the operation and maintenance activities of Water and Wastewater Treatment operations.

  • Leads assigned crew members in performing routine maintenance (repairs and cleaning) of buildings/structures, equipment, fans, and blowers; includes but is not limited to conducting routine inspections, making mechanical repairs/adjustments and overhauling pumps, reduction gear, and variable speed drive units.
  •  Operates and monitors all processing equipment and machinery, operation, and maintenance of plant equipment with plant supervisory directives.
  • Maintains and reviews maintenance records, including work orders, SOPs, O&M manuals, and other various equipment maintenance records.
  • Responds to and takes appropriate action in relation to hazardous chemical leaks (chlorine, ammonia, sulfur dioxide), which require the use of an oxygen breathing apparatus.
  • Responsible for ensuring confined space entry procedures are followed and properly documented.
  • Assist Utilities Foreman during assigned employees’ annual evaluations, by providing input, feedback, and developing work plans, where required.
  • Ensures crews are performing vehicle/equipment inspections and supply inventory on a routine basis.
  • Responds to emergency call-out.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  •  High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience
  •  2 years of work experience in utility maintenance or mechanical repairs.
  • Any combination of related, education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of basic electricity, pump and motor, blower, drive, belt and other operating equipment maintenance needs.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic chemistry and mathematical principles.
  • Basic Knowledge of computer operations.
 
Ability to:
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
  • Ability to follow instructions, safety practices and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks.
  • Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.
  • Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn and apply basic knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, equipment, controls, instrumentation, and hydraulics.
  • Ability to interpret charts, flow diagrams, maintenance manuals and instructions.
  • Ability to perform mechanical repairs, including gas/electric welding.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations as needed.
  • Ability to distinguish different colors to read and interpret lab equipment and fluids.

Skills:
  • Skill in use of personal computer including Microsoft Office, Open Office or similar word processing programs, e-mail and the internet.
  • Must possess and exhibit skills necessary to operate assigned tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner.

Other Requirements:
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test, physical exam and functional capacity test.
  • Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver’s License Class “C” (or higher) and good driving record as defined by City policy.
  • Must be available to work overtime, on-call, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must possess at minimum a Class C Water (Surface OR Distribution) OR a Wastewater (Class C Treatment OR Collections II) License through TCEQ at time of hire.
  • Must obtain BOTH a Water (Surface OR Distribution) AND a Wastewater (Treatment OR Collection) License from TCEQ within 6 months of hire.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with water OR wastewater treatment experience, who already hold a Class C (or equivalent) License through TCEQ.
Monday - Thursday 6:30-5:00, On-call two week period.
