ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing skilled gardening work in the maintenance of grounds and landscapes on the Main Campus as well as satellite locations in Enumclaw and downtown Auburn. This position may instruct the work of others, including student workers or temporary hourly employees assigned to Grounds. This is an essential position that works during inclement weather.
Position Responsibilities

  • Prepares soil for planting seed, sod, turf, plants, trees and shrubs
  • Plants, transplants, trim and waters plants, trees, flowers and shrubs
  • Applies pesticides and herbicides to flowers and shrubs
  • Seeds, mows, irrigates, fertilizes and maintains lawns
  • Uses a variety of manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, pruning shears, hand edgers, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows and pesticide sprayers
  • Operates power and motorized equipment such as weed trimmers, chain saws, backpack blowers, mowers, aerators, light tractors and frontend loaders
  • Cleans, services and makes minor repairs to tools and equipment
  • Assists in installation and repair of lawn sprinkler system components
  • Assist in moving materials and supplies
  • Snow and Ice removal
  • Parking lot maintenance
  • Updates and records work performed in a computer maintenance management system. (Megamations)
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School graduation or GED certificate
  • Two years of experience or training involving grounds maintenance, gardening, plant care and landscape installation.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and hazardous chemicals involved in cleaning and/or disposing of hazardous waste.
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions
  • Able to use a computer maintenance management system
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4 years of grounds maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience in towing a utility trailer
  • Demonstrated experience in use of pesticides

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to perform tasks and duties in all weather conditions
  • Working from elevated platforms
  • Perform repetitive duties
  • Working from step and extension ladders
  • Must be able to maintain "regular and predictable attendance"
  • May need to carry, lift or move equipment/supplies up to 75 lbs
  • Work schedule: 5:30am-2:00pm
  • Term of Position: (12 months)
