Job Title: Power BI Developer
Location: Denver Metropolitan Area, Colorado
Duration: 12 months
Overview:
The Office of Information Technology is seeking a skilled Power BI Developer to enhance our Business Intelligence (BI) Program. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in various technical areas, including requirements gathering, data modeling, data source connectivity, DAX formula creation, and report development. The developer will collaborate with business stakeholders, data analysts, and the Integrations team to create robust and efficient Power BI solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Requirements Gathering:
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and data analysts to understand requirements and business objectives for reports, visualizations, and underlying data models.
- Identify relevant data sources and attributes for model use.
2. Data Modeling:
- Design and document efficient conceptual, logical, and physical data models to meet business requirements.
- Implement row and column-level security within the Power BI semantic model.
- Establish reusable semantic data models in Power BI.
- Utilize Tabular Editor Best Practice Analyzer to adhere to modeling and DAX best practices.
- Create relationships between tables and optimize data structures.
3. Data Source Connectivity Setup:
- Connect to various data sources such as APIs, Big Query, ArcGIS map and feature layers, SQL databases, Excel files, and streaming datasets.
- Ensure seamless data extraction and transformation.
- Collaborate with OIT Integrations team members to determine available integration patterns.
4. DAX Formulas:
- Write proficient DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) formulas.
- Develop calculated columns, measures, and custom calculations.
5. Report Creation:
- Design and develop interactive and visually appealing reports and dashboards.
- Incorporate slicers, visuals, drill-through functionality, streaming, and ArcGIS visuals.
- Adhere to accessibility standards (Section 508).
- Optimize Power BI reports and suggest improvements to the underlying data model for performance, using DAX Studio and built-in Power BI performance tools.
6. Source and Version Control:
- Follow organizational patterns for source and version control for Power BI files.
- Utilize Azure DevOps as appropriate within the process.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Power BI Developer or in a similar role.
- Strong understanding of data modeling concepts and best practices.
- Proficiency in DAX formulas and custom calculations.
- Experience with data source connectivity, including APIs, Big Query, ArcGIS, SQL databases, and Excel.
- Skilled in designing and developing Power BI reports and dashboards with a focus on usability and performance.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (Section 508).
- Familiarity with tools such as Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, and Power BI performance optimization tools.
- Experience with source and version control systems, particularly Azure DevOps.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $37.00 - $60.00 per hour
