Description

Summary:

This position is primarily responsible for upfront review, rating and administrative support for new and existing business in the underwriting process. This position will learn and perform underwriting/re-underwriting functions within level of authority under guidance of tenured underwriters. This position will assist agents with navigating online systems and resources, as well as understand and adhere to Goodville’s underwriting philosophy and service to our members.

Functions:

• Assist underwriters with reviewing risks and problem resolution.
• Determine risk acceptability within assigned authority and company guidelines. 
• Develop necessary tools to maintain a profitable book of business.
• Rate new policy applications, renewals, changes, and cancellations.
• Communicate with agents and members regarding coverage questions, processing procedures, quotations and the acceptance or rejection of risks.
• Assist with underwriting processing and training.
• Order inspection reports, MVRs, CLUE and credit reports.
• Maintain knowledge of current industry practices and developments through continuing education.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Line Supervisor or Underwriting Manager.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; or 
• Associate’s degree and two years related experience required; or 
• High school diploma, or GED, and four years related experience required; or 
• High school diploma, or GED, and successful completion of CPCU, CIC or PLCS designation required.
• Willingness to enroll in and complete the General Insurance Program (INS 21, 22, 23) or related insurance program required.
• Working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and email software required.
• Ability to work flexible hours, travel to all organization offices (including in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and South Dakota) and travel to vendor work sites required.
• Ability to work in an office environment with moderate noise level, remain in a stationary position and operate a computer a majority of the time required.
• Ability to move throughout the office to access work materials and to move work materials weighing up to ten pounds daily required.
