This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations set outside of Fort Worth, TX.

Discovery at Veale Ranch is seeking a full-time, year-round Chief Financial Officer to join the Financing and Accounting Department.

Job Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer will have a primary focus on the financial affairs of Discovery Land at Veale Ranch but will also serve as the onsite project leader, reporting to DLC Corporate and overseeing other onsite department leaders. This person must understand complex consumer-facing business models and how the company drives profitability and commercial success. The CFO is responsible for the project’s financial plans, its accounting practices, tax issues, risk management, maintaining strong relationships with lending institutions/ financial partners, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. This individual will prepare financial analyses of operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, and oversees the project’s audit. This individual will coordinate closely with other senior executives at the project and serve as a key person for investor / corporate executive relations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Manages the day-to-day finances for the project development company as well as private club and oversees the activities of the accounting and finance staff, including recruiting as necessary. In certain cases, responsibilities may span multiple projects with support from additional on-site or corporate financial management team members.

• Timely and accurately produces monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

• Manages the annual audit process.

• Ensures that the project's monthly business plan is accurate as to historical data as well as forecasted information.

• Demonstrates an ability to make bottom-line decision, including but not limited to overall cost controls and capex budgets.

• Well versed in the principles and applications of GAAP, Internal Revenue Service code and practice (or other applicable taxing authorities) and assures recordation of all transactions in compliance thereof.

• In conjunction with other functional leads, directs the preparation of the capital budget and planning including leasing and other forms of financing, reserves, and replacements. Determines applicable depreciation and recovery rates to apply to capitalized assets and advises management on such matters.

• Responsible for coordinating tax planning activities and compliance with all corporate, payroll and other applicable taxes.

• Responsible for maintaining and keeping compliance on all licenses.

• Directs and coordinates the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures (including all accounting software systems) and analyzes and reports variances.

• Evaluates and recommends insurance coverage for protection against all potential liabilities (general business, specific and unordinary risk, employment), property losses, risk management, and other insurance functions.

• Cash management and treasury functions - including cash flow projection and analysis, banking, debt and handling of cash and short-term assets. Follows control procedures established by the corporate treasury function. For foreign projects, manages currency risk in conjunction with corporate treasury.

• If assigned, duties could include mentoring and overseeing more junior financial leaders at other projects.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA preferred.

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation an asset.

• 15 years of progressive finance leadership experience; well-rounded functional knowledge across financial planning, analysis, reporting, budgeting, treasury, and tax.

• Experience operating in complex environments through periods of change/transformation; exposure to real estate and/or hospitality is ideal.

• Previous success building relationships with and acting as a strategic partner and business advisor to senior executive leaders. Experience collaborating with, persuading, and gaining trust from a broad range of stakeholders.

• Results driven.

• Excellent work ethic, deadline orientation, and a strong sense of urgency.

• This individual must bring the ability to go above and beyond normal duties to complete assignments, possessing a can-do attitude.

• The ability to work independently and be self-sufficient.

• Strong communication and correspondence skills with the ability to maintain sound working relationships and communications with management, staff, ownership, buyers, and vendors.

• Experience in a similar capacity at a large-scale real estate developer, resort, or club is preferred.

• Strong computer skills, including extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Experience with Intact, Timberline, Jonas and Adaptive Planning is a plus.
