Job Overview:
An Estimator Manager leads a team of estimators and is responsible for overseeing the cost estimating process for construction projects or other initiatives. They collaborate with various stakeholders to provide accurate and competitive cost estimates, contributing to successful project acquisition and execution. Their primary goal is to provide accurate and competitive cost estimates to help organizations make informed decisions and secure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership:
a. Manage and lead a team of estimators.
b. Assign tasks, set goals, and provide guidance and mentoring to team members.
c. Conduct performance evaluations and offer training and development opportunities.
1. Cost Estimation :
a. Oversee and review the preparation of cost estimates for projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses.
b. Ensure that estimates are accurate, competitive, and align with project requirements.
c. Extremely knowledgeable about figuring out labor cost to the project.
2. Bid Analysis:
a. Analyze bid documents and specifications to understand project requirements and constraints.
b. Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids to determine the most cost-effective solutions.
3. Risk Assessment:
a. Identify potential risks and uncertainties in cost estimation and develop mitigation strategies.
b. Assess and account for contingencies in estimates to minimize financial surprises.
4. Budget Management:
a. Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to develop and manage project budgets.
b. Monitor expenses and control costs throughout the project lifecycle.
5. Bid Submissions:
a. Prepare and review bid proposals and documentation for client submissions.
b. Ensure compliance with client requirements and deadlines.
6. Client Relations:
a. Build and maintain strong client relationships.
b. Address client inquiries, concerns, and requests in a professional and timely manner.
7. Procurement and Vendor Management:
a. Collaborate with procurement teams to secure necessary materials, subcontractors, and equipment.
b. Negotiate and manage vendor contracts and agreements.
8. Technology and Software:
a. Stay up to date with cost estimating software and tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
b. Implement and train team members on relevant software.
Work Environment:
As an Estimating Managers at Gottstein, you will work primarily in an office setting. However, you will need to visit the construction sites, attend client meetings, and interact with vendors and subcontractors as needed. The role will require occasional travel.
Requirements
· 5 years min experience.
· Availability for out of state travel
· 5 years experience in Mechanical and Industrial Construction
· Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
· Extensive experience in cost estimating, ideally with a background in construction or a relevant industry.
· Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry standards.
· Excellent in calculating labor hours, in addition to overtime, holiday, travel, per-diem, and hotel cost.
· Proficiency in cost estimating software and tools.
· Knowledge in Pro-Core Project Management Software a plus
· Leadership and team management skills.
· Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
· Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include frequent walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
· Must be able to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds at a time.
· May require travel.
· Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
· Must be on call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
· Standing up to 90%; sitting up to 10%·
