Position Title: Field Training Officer
Location: Florence, SC
Definition/Scope:
In addition to functioning as a Field Provider, the Field Training Officer will assist the operations leadership team and Training Administrator in training activities as directed. Training activities include but are not limited to in- person classroom New Employee Orientation with practical skills exercise, Driver Training, Field Training Orientation and Third-Party Rides. Remedial Training of Field Staff as Directed by Medical Director and/or Operations Management. This role involves being a role model, teaching field employee’s policies of the company, teaching the employee how to correctly apply the concepts they learned in the classroom to field operations, and evaluating the employee on his or her progress in the program.
Minimum Requirements:
  • All EMT requirements.
  • Certified as EMT Basic or higher
  • BTLS or PHTLS or obtain within one year
  • CEVO and/or EVOC Driving Instructor within two years
  • High Level of Proficiency in Clinical Documentation
  • High Level of Proficiency in Use of ePCR Systems
  • Must be knowledgeable in medical terminology.
  • High level of customer service orientation
  • Must be proficient in ambulance patient care field documentation.
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must have ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with EMS databases used in our organization (ePRO, EMS Charts etc.).
  • Prior EMS teaching/mentoring experience preferred.
  • Must be punctual and able to meet deadlines as assigned.
Instructor Certifications- FTO’s will have priority in obtaining additional instructor certifications as needed, including but not limited to:
  • NAEMT Safety Course Instructor
  • CPR Instructor, First Aid Instructor
  • ACLS Instructor, PALS Instructor
  • BTLS/PHTLS Instructor
Physical Requirements:
  • All EMT Requirements.
  • The ability to reach, push, pull, sit, or stand for long periods of time.
  • The ability to read and understand medical terminology.
  • The ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions regarding patient care, operations, and customer service concerns.
  • The ability to supervise, motivate, and train subordinates effectively through positive attitude and compassion.
  • The ability to complete all job duties during any and all hours of the day and night.
  • The ability to use mouse or keyboard to input data into computer over long periods of time.
  • The ability to view graphic and text data on multiple computer screens for long periods of time.

  • DQA/QA/QI
  • Regional President
  • Vice President of People Learning & Development
Specific Duties:
  • Serves as an educational resource for field employees and management.
  • Ensures the proper training and instruction of new employees’ adherence to EMS policies, procedures, guidelines, directives, and standards.
  • Demonstrate complete knowledge, understanding and compliance of company policies and procedures.
  • As directed acts as preceptor for new employees during field ride time portion of new employee orientation.
  • Responsible for leading new employee orientation program (NEOP), to include field training officer program and any skills.
  • Make recommendations to the Training Administrator to improve various aspects of the training and QA/QI programs.
  • Identify, evaluate and/or remediate individuals who are not meeting and exceeding National EMS performance standards.
  • Ensures unit and crew members adhere to policies, procedures, guidelines, directives, and standards. Reports any deficiencies to the shift supervisor or Director of Operations.
  • Responsible for reviewing patient care reports ensuring that medical protocols are followed.
  • Responsible for being involved in patient care protocol reviews and updates.
  • Responsible for ensuring completion of daily, weekly, and monthly unit check offs.
  • Serves as team leader and takes responsibility for scene management as needed.
  • Accepts responsibility for recertification as an EMT-Paramedic, and for any other required licenses/certifications as required by the company, local, regional, and state.
  • Always maintains security and privacy of all company and proprietary information in accordance with company policies.
  • Acts with his/her safety in mind, as well as the safety of others always.
  • Maintain a state of readiness and professionalism while on duty.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and conduct while in company uniform either on or off duty.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports, and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions regarding patient care, operations, and other customer service issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer systems including PCR reporting, email, and MDT applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate, and train subordinates effectively through positive attitude and compassion.
  • Demonstrated skills in the successful completion of multiple, simultaneous, and rapidly emergent tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions regarding patient care, National EMS operations and other customer service issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate at all levels, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledgeable of local area and ability to read and interpret local maps.
  • Self-motivated and requires litter supervision and direction.
  • Performs other duties as directed by management.
