Advanced skilled work in maintaining and repairing water meters, water lines and mains, servicing water lines, and other manual laboring tasks. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Supervisor / Crew Leader / Water Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Installs, repairs, maintains, and changes out water meters. Flushes, installs, relocates and repairs fire hydrants. Installs, repairs, and maintain valves exercise program. Installs water services, taps, meters, back flow devices.
2. Repairs and installs water main lines. Repairs water leaks. Checks low water pressure.
3. Replaces meter boxes. Read meters on a substitute basis for meter reader.
4. Installs back-flow prevention devices.
5. Provides water main and service locations.
6. Installs and maintains irrigation system.
7. Performs all work found in the Maintenance Worker classification.
8. Operates heavy equipment.
9. Maintains Inventory System
10. Assist when needed to work with Utility/water Inspector/Coordinator on construction projects under the direction of Assist Supervisor/Supervisor.
11. Maintains a FDEP Water Distribution License
12. Provides assistance in line locates for the utility department

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to operate heavy equipment.
2. Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the water field.
3. Ability to work from sketches, maps, blueprints.
4. Ability to work rotating shifts including weekend duty, emergency callout.
5. Ability to establish working relationships with other employees and the general public
6. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
7. Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
8. Basic mathematical skills.
9. Skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
10. Ability to operate computer work order system.
11. Basic computer knowledge of Office 365 and email.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
2. One (1) year experience in water and maintenance field.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
1. Valid Florida Class “B” CDL— (6 mo. from date hired)
2. Traffic Work Zone Safety Certificate
3. Class “C” Distribution License (obtain one year from date of hire)
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
· Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
· Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
· Heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying
· Climbing, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, smelling, snooping, operating equipment, driving
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
· Works inside
· Works outside in various weather conditions with: chemicals, electricity and odors.
· Slippery surfaces
· Works below ground level
· Works in and around moving equipment.
