Position Objectives
The Planning Assistant performs professional level work in the field of county planning and development services.
Duties & Responsibilities
An employee in this class performs development review and code enforcement work for the County with emphasis on protecting the public health and general welfare of citizens. Work involves assisting the Deputy County Manager for Community Development with site plan approval, subdivision plat review and approval, and other related development review processes. Assists development professionals and the general public with development and public safety issues; conducts research on policy and best practices for development and other public safety related matters; develops various types of maps, charts, photographs, and other visual aids using general accepted software to illustrate data in written reports; and provides development consultation and enforcement assistance to other County departments. Serve as county representative on the Isothermal RPO, and other meetings or committees as required. Work involves providing technical guidance with considerable public interaction on issues requiring good judgment, firmness, and tact.
Work is performed under general supervision of the Deputy County Manager for Community Development and is evaluated through periodic conferences and observation of duties performed.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be proficient in computer operations and basic office equipment, have good oral and written communication skills and be able to multitask in a high paced office environment. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other similar mapping systems is required. The position will require periodic outdoor work, including walking areas with uneven or steep terrain. May require attendance at meetings after normal working hours. Pre-employment drug test, criminal background check, and fitness for duty required. Four-year degree from accredited college or university in planning, public administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of experience and training.
