IN AND OUT OF DISTRICT POSITION: Program Specialist The Livonia Public Schools is seeking a Program Specialist for K-12 special education programs. The Program Specialist will support district-wide leadership for effective program implementation and be responsible for supporting and monitoring programs and services to assure compliance with state and federal mandates. The diverse nature of programs and services coordinated will require ongoing planning and collaboration with Directors, building administrators, and leadership staff within the student services department. The program specialist will facilitate transition and wraparound services for students with complex needs, including making connections to community agencies and resources.
DISTRICT OVERVIEW: Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,800 staff members, serving approximately 13,200 students pre-K - post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center and 1 vocational and transition center in the School District. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $175 million, with a state funding of $9,608 per pupil.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following is a list of minimum qualifications for this position, any one of which may be waived by the Administration in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.
•Master's degree in an area of Special Education with at least 5 year's experience
•Experience with Wayne RESA County programs: especially ASD and MOCI
•Competency with FBA, BIP and Emergency Intervention Plan development and implementation
•Knowledge at the evaluation and analysis levels of MARSE and IDEA rules and regulations
•Training in, and experience with, effective instructional strategies and behavioral interventions including Essential Elements, PBIS and Trauma Informed Care
•Demonstrated ability and experience in working cooperatively with others including staff, teachers, students and resident district staff
•Experience working with community agencies including employment, transition and wrap around services
•Previous leadership experience is preferred
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: The Program Specialist of Student Services directly reports to the Principal and Student Services Coordinator.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES: The following responsibilities are intended to be illustrative of the major functions of this position and are not comprehensive:
•Creates and contributes to a welcoming and positive climate and culture
•Exhibits a commitment to the District's Shared Vision and Collective Commitments
•Provides support to programs, staff, and parents in evaluating student educational needs in the least restrictive environment and in modifying or selecting programs and activities to meet these needs
•Provides support for staff development activities, community-based work sites and curriculum development
•Provides assistance to coordinators, building administrators and other leadership staff in the development of programs, refinement of procedures, and entry/exit criteria for center-based programs
•Initiates and maintains effective parent and community relationships
•Demonstrates skills necessary to develop a collaborative relationship with local and county consultants
•Demonstrates ability in the development of behavior plans
•Provides guidance with Wayne County special education programming
•Liaisons with neighboring districts to coordinate services
•Coordinates county applications for budget deviations
•Develops and supports professional development and program meetings
•Provides instructional coaching on the use of the Essential Elements/Career Education
•Collaborates on BIP's, FBA's, Trauma Informed Care, Emergency Intervention Plans, and CPI experience and training
•Executes other duties assumes other responsibilities as assigned by building/program administrator
•Provide coaching on community outreach/agency support for student preparing to transition out of school
•Develop performance outcome standards for work/life skills
•Develop relationships with community partners
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: The work year, salary, and fringe benefits will be consistent with the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Livonia Education Association. The deadline for applications is May 29, 2024. This position will remain open until the position is filled.
