SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for managing delivery of all HR activities and services for two (2) manufacturing locations, including recruitment and staffing, time and attendance, employee engagement, communication, orientation and training, employee/union relations, organizational and regulatory compliance, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participate as an active member of the plant management team to ensure the location meets or exceeds objectives in areas of safety, cost, delivery, quality, launch, compliance, etc.
  • Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with local union leadership in order to successfully resolve shop floor and contract administration issues.
  • Lead grievance handling, contract administration and other day to day labor relations activities. Support labor mediations or arbitrations and contract negotiation.
  • Interpret policies and procedures and provide guidance in a consistent manner to managers, employees.
  • Facilitate the resolution of complex employee concerns, including discipline when appropriate. Counsel management on corrective actions ensuring consistency and adherence to company policies.
  • Administer personnel transactions (hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews and termination), benefits administration (enrollments, status changes) and employee statistics for government reporting (hires, terminations, etc.).
  • Manage time and attendance to ensure accurate payroll processing.
  • Assess training and development needs of the location and prepare location training plans accordingly.
  • Collaborate with location leadership team to ensure strategies are in place for positive employee relations, e.g. pulse surveys, employee involvement, recognition programs, etc.
  • Manage the workforce planning process and staffing actions to ensure the right resources at the right time for the location.
  • Administer performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity.
  • Collaborate with EHS and plant management to develop and sustain a safety-first culture throughout the location.
  • Follow a structured process to investigate concerns and incidents and develop and implement and/or advise management on appropriate corrective/preventive actions.
  • Participate in project teams for initiatives related to the location and/or corporate human resources.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Human Resources Manager may supervise roles such as HR Generalist, HR Administrator and/or HR Intern, depending on the workforce size and/or complexity of the assigned location.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Bachelor’s degree with course of study in Human Resources Management, Labor & Industrial Relations. May consider directly relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years Human Resources experience with responsibilities same as those described above, including experience in union work environment.
  • Must be able to effectively balance the role of employee advocate and management adviser
  • Must possess strong consultative and coaching skills.
  • Must have excellent analytical, planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, follow up on assigned projects and meet deadlines.
  • Must have a high degree of integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must have working knowledge of employment and labor laws, such as FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, etc.
  • Must have experience with HR systems, preferably Paycor.
  • Must have knowledge of IATF and ISO requirements as they relate to Human Resources.
