Library Assistant I – Adult Reference (Grade 5)
Non-exempt, Part-time (30 hrs.)
This position provides reference and reader’s advisory services; oversees usage of public access computers; creates promotional materials and social media posts to advertise adult library programs and services; plans and leads adults programs at the library. Assists with the cataloging of library materials and assists with interlibrary loans. Assists patrons with different technologies as needed. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Adult Reference Manager. Requires excellent communication and customer service skills; considerable knowledge of books, authors, periodicals, and reference sources; strong internet searching skills; knowledge of webmail clients and Microsoft Office; familiarity with current technology and ability to keep up-to-date with changes in technology. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with library patrons and staff is essential. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. Requires education or experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Previous customer service and/or library experience and design skills are preferred.
