2024-2025 School Year

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 12 Months

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid certification in library science and/or library media.
  • Proficient on computers and Microsoft Office and current library software programs
  • Background clearance through FBI and ABI processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Regular and punctual attendance required; full compliance with BCS sick leave and personal leave policies.
  • Plan, organize, implement, and supervise the media program, collection, and staff of the school library media center.
  • Utilize computer software programs, internet and other technology to accomplish goals of the program.
  • Prepare and administer a library budget using standard accounting procedures.
  • Evaluate and select a variety of materials and equipment based upon the curriculum needs and interests of the students, staff and administration.
  • Perform and/or coordinate the ordering, cataloging, processing and maintenance of media and equipment for circulation.
  • Maximize library functions by actively recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising clerical help, student assistants and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with teachers in planning and teaching lessons and presenting activities based around student needs and the requirements of the course; maintain good classroom behavior.
  • Establish and maintain and accurate circulation system for media and equipment; maintain equipment and update equipment as required.
  • Schedule use of equipment, materials and space of the media to provide maximum access for students and faculty.
  • Plan and provide information literacy skills instruction for students and staff; serve as resource specialist to students and teachers.
  • Plan and provide literacy skills instruction for students and staff; utilize and teach the use of technology in locating information.
  • Work cooperatively with staff to integrate information literacy skills within the curriculum.
  • Maintain accurate inventories and indexes of the library media center's collection of materials and equipment utilizing library software.
  • Provide an environment conducive to inquiry, research, study and personal use by students and staff.
  • Promote the school library media program and resources to students, staff, and community.
  • Involve students, staff, and community in planning and evaluating the library media program.
  • Implement the requirements of state law, Board policies, and local school procedures.
  • Participate in professional growth and development activities including staff meetings, conferences and workshops as assigned.
  • Complete and process required reports, forms, correspondence and other information in a timely manner.

OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to work a full day and additional hours as required.

2. Excellent skills on computers and data bases, including Microsoft Office, internet web sites, and current library software problems.

3. Good knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment needed by different departments in the school setting; ability to evaluate equipment needs and stay current on available equipment.

4. Good knowledge of technology, materials and equipment appropriate for effective teaching and learning.

5. Good knowledge of school's program of studies related to mission, goals, and organization; aware of student reading levels and materials needed to meet these needs.

6. Ability to apply knowledge of current research, technology and theory to library program.

7. Skill in effective oral and written communication.

8. Excellent skills in human relations.

9. Knowledge of state laws, regulations and local requirements and policy for the library media program.

10. Excellent skills in organization; ability to prioritize tasks and meet needs on a daily basis.

PHYSICAL REOUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Move about the room as required in teaching.
  • Physically able to handle, move, retrieve, and/or deliver materials and equipment as required.
  • Adequate strength, mobility, dexterity, agility, speech and visual and aural acuity to perform required tasks.
