Sunday School Teacher for Middle School
In collaboration with the Coordinator of Children’s Formation, the Middle School Sunday School Teacher oversees the development and implementation of a robust program for children fifth - seventh grade. The Teacher will work closely with the Dean & Rector, Coordinator of Children’s Formation, staff, and adult volunteers. This is a part-time position approximately two - four hours per week.
Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Explore available children’s Christian formation curricula and, in consultation with the Dean & Rector, select (and adapt as needed) one or more to be used for the Sunday School year, September through May beginning September 15, 2024 with enrollment to begin on September 8, 2024
· Recruit adult volunteers to be present in the classroom to fulfill safe church requirements
· Teach each Sunday, coordinating with staff and other team members for school breaks, etc.
· Be present on Sunday mornings to greet the children and their loved ones and attend the service
· Explore, plan, and implement special events for the children as agreed with the Dean & Rector
Qualifications
· Possess a solid Christian faith and knowledge of scripture
· Realize a call to work with a diverse group of children in their faith formation
· Able to foster an inclusive environment for children of varied backgrounds
· Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with children and adults
· Willing to work with a team of adult volunteers
· Experience deep joy in working with children as well as a healthy sense of humor
· Able to commit to being present on Sunday mornings during the standard academic year, September through early June excluding the first Sunday after Christmas and Easter Day
· Some teaching experience required
· Comfortable teaching, writing, and speaking in the English language required
· Requires a successful background check and training in The Episcopal Church Safe Church curriculum
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 2 – 4 per week
