The Lighthouse Mission is Hiring a Crisis Services Manager Near Bellingham, WA

Position Description: The Crisis Services Manager will take a lead role in assisting with day to day shelter operations and maintaining a safe environment for the men and women accessing emergency shelter at Lighthouse Mission Ministry’s (LMM’s) Base Camp. The Manager will provide oversight to a team of Crisis Services Associates, offer direct service to guests, work closely with community partners, and follow LMM policies and procedures to ensure Base Camp operates in a grace-based and radically hospitable way.

Compensation to Include: PTO & Paid-holiday Package, 100% employer paid Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance for employee; 403(b) Contribution and match up to 5%, Employee Assistance Program, Paid Training, and Education Reimbursement.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide support to staff and assist in direct client care.
  • Supervise, coach, and provide direction to Crisis Services Associates in decision making and crisis management through overseeing daily shelter operations.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation regarding daily shelter events, incident reports, and mandatory reporting.
  • Ensure and enforce internal policies and compliance with standard operating procedures of the department.
  • Facilitate and lead 1 on 1 meetings with direct reports which can include developing effective performance plans and goal setting with staff.
  • Manage staff schedules and ensure proper shift coverage for 24/7, year round facility, this may also include being on call to cover shifts on an emergency basis. 
  • Participate in regular shelter staff meetings as well as meetings with community partners.
  • Act as emergency or crisis response coverage as instructed by the Director of Crisis & Outreach Services.
  • Offer prayer and Christian Devotionals.
  • Maintain a positive, pleasant, and professional attitude. Work with other staff to model transparent and supportive Christian relationships, which will serve as a leadership example for shelter guests.
  • Oversee, encourage and train staff, volunteers, and interns as needed.
  • Embrace and use LMM's grace-based accountability philosophy.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Organizational Relationships: 

  • Works alongside a team of Crisis Services staff, volunteers and interns.
  • Represents LMM, specifically Base Camp, to other social service agencies.
  • Reports directly to the Director of Crisis & Outreach Services.
  • Provides direct supervision and support to Program Staff as assigned

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a combination of education, life, and work experience that demonstrates the ability to fulfill all aspects of the job description. To include 2 years of applicable education and/ or training and 2 years of directly related experience in ministry, emergency shelter, social services or similar.

  • Expertise in working with individuals experiencing see homelessness and in the areas of poverty, addiction, domestic violence, and recovery. Personal or lived experience preferred.
  • A passion for serving Jesus and making the Gospel known through mercy ministry. The successful candidate will have an active church/prayer life and be in agreement with the Lighthouse Mission’s Statement of Faith and Personal Covenant
  • Experienced with, or possessing the ability to effectively manage and supervise other staff members. This includes the ability to build rapport with staff as well as practicing professional boundaries and accountability with staff.
  • Able to use judgment to make independent decisions.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity in all forms is required.
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment criminal background screenings and comply with our drug-free workplace policies.
  • High boundary setting and self-reflection skills.
  • Basic motivational interviewing skills preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with program guests and volunteers.
  • Ability to remain calm and calm others in an emergency and/or confrontational situations, this can include meeting with residents to coordinate reentry into services.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with LMM staff and with a diverse client base.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills--both written and oral--for communication with co-workers, men and women staying as guests and outside agencies.
  • Ability to use MS Word, Excel, Gmail, and Google Calendar.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

  • Standing 40%; walking 30%; sitting 30%; ability to walk up and down stairs
  • Medium to heavy lifting, up to 35 lbs
  • Possible exposure to a variety of illnesses
  • Ability to report to shift as regularly scheduled or on an on-call basis.
  • Both inside and outside activities regardless of weather
  • Ability to rapidly deal with emergency situations in an intermittently high-stress environment
