NASW Texas is seeking Policy Fellow to support both the work of NASW-TX and the Texas Coalition of Healthy Minds (TCHM). Our chapter co-chairs the TCHM, and the Policy Fellow will be able to support the committee and advocacy work of TCHM, while also advancing the NASW-TX legislative agenda and membership needs. The Policy Fellow will allow NASW-TX to step further into the social well-being policy arena by focusing on youth in the child welfare system and the juvenile justice system, as well as work directly with TCHM supporting conversations and research that examine children and youth who enter foster care and cross over youth between the child welfare system and juvenile justice system.
Minimum Qualifications: Master of Social Work (MSW) degree (within the last 18 months). Experience or knowledge in navigating the public mental health system with a background or fundamental understanding of the state legislative and political processes. The Fellow will develop bipartisan relationships with policymakers and key stakeholders to effectively advocate for NASW-TX and TCHM policy priorities focused on enhancing access to mental health care for indigent children and families. The fellow will adhere to professional social work values by aligning their policy research and legislative advocacy with culturally responsive policy solutions and interventions with respect to individual identities. The Fellow will also be responsible for other mental health coalition-building activities that drive collective budgetary advocacy, solutions, and tactics.
