We are seeking experienced and safety-conscious Structural Ironworkers to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assembling, erecting, and connecting structural steel frames and components according to blueprints and specifications. This physically demanding role requires a high level of skill, precision, and an unwavering commitment to workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Erection & Installation: Unload, position, and connect steel beams, girders, and columns to form structures and frameworks using cranes, derricks, and other hoisting equipment.
- Rigging: Signal crane operators to position steel members accurately and safely. Select, set up, and use appropriate rigging gear (slings, shackles, turnbuckles).
- Alignment & Plumbing: Use plumb bobs, lasers, levels, and grade rods to align and plumb structural steel members to precise specifications.
- Bolt-Up: Temporarily bolt connected members using drift pins, spud wrenches, and impact wrenches.
- Welding & Torching: Perform minor welding, burning, and torching operations to cut, bevel, and fit steel components (certification a plus).
- Fall Protection: Rig, install, and work while connected to fall protection systems (harnesses, lifelines, safety nets) at all times when working at height.
- Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret detailed erection drawings, shop drawings, and specifications to determine the correct placement of members.
- Teamwork: Work collaboratively with a crew of ironworkers, foremen, crane operators, and other trades to complete projects efficiently and safely.
- Site Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized work area, properly storing tools and materials.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations. Participate in daily site safety meetings (toolbox talks).
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Structural Ironworker.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship program is highly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings.
- Proficiency in rigging, signaling, and connecting steel.
- Strong knowledge of and strict adherence to OSHA safety standards, especially fall protection.
- Physical strength, stamina, and ability to work at great heights (not afraid of heights).
- Ability to lift heavy objects (50 lbs), climb, bend, kneel, and stand for long periods.
- Excellent balance and coordination.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites.
- Must be willing to travel as project locations change.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Certification.
- Certified Welder (AWS or equivalent) with experience in SMAW (Stick) and/or FCAW (Flux-Core).
- Certified Signal Person and/or Rigging certification.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
