Position Overview
A precision manufacturing organization is seeking a Senior CNC Programmer – Lathe to lead the development, optimization, and execution of CNC programs for complex turning operations. This role is hands-on and highly technical, focused on multi-axis and Swiss-style lathe machining in a high-mix manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is a subject-matter expert who takes ownership of programs from print through production and actively supports shop-floor execution.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for multi-axis and Swiss-style lathes using CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Esprit).
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T to determine efficient and repeatable machining strategies.
- Select tooling, fixtures, and workholding solutions to ensure accuracy, quality, and cycle-time optimization.
- Support first-article inspections and collaborate with quality teams to ensure parts meet specifications.
- Troubleshoot machining and programming issues to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
- Provide technical support and guidance to setup technicians and machine operators, including program adjustments and setup assistance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to efficiency, scrap reduction, tooling performance, and process reliability.
- Maintain accurate documentation including CNC programs, setup sheets, tooling lists, and process standards.
- Promote a safe and organized manufacturing environment while adhering to all safety policies and best practices.
- Manage multiple programs and priorities in a fast-paced production setting.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on CNC programming experience, with a strong emphasis on lathe operations.
- Advanced proficiency with CAD/CAM software (Mastercam and/or Esprit).
- Strong working knowledge of G-code and M-code.
- Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T.
- Experience machining materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Comfortable taking ownership of projects from concept through production.
- Experience in job shop or high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments.
- Exposure to Swiss-style lathe platforms and multi-axis machining.
- Experience supporting aerospace, medical, automotive, or other precision manufacturing industries.
- Background in process improvement, tooling optimization, or cycle-time reduction initiatives.
- Technical certifications related to CNC machining or manufacturing technology.
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Associate degree or technical certification in CNC machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field (preferred).
- Combination of office and manufacturing floor environments.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a production setting.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, crouching, or climbing.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools, components, and machine controls.
- Exposure to moderate to occasional loud noise levels typical of manufacturing operations.
Salary Range: $100,000 – $115,000 annually (dependent on experience)
