The Finance Office maintains the financial records of the County and is responsible for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and with principles prescribed by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board.

About our opportunity

We invite you to join our team as a full-time (40 hours per week), exempt Accountant within the Finance Department. This position will primarily focus on supporting all of the accounting functions for our Fire Services Department. As an Accountant in this position, you will be responsible for various functions including accounts payable, reporting and other government accounting functions. Your experience and expertise will play a crucial role in ensuring accuracy and compliance of financial processes within our organization.

Projected Hiring Range: $58,232 - $72,820 per year. Salary is based on qualifications.

Location: Government Center, York, SC

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am -5:00 pm; hours may vary based on operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Reconciles multiple accounts monthly.
  • Research and corrects journal entries.
  • Completes payroll as scheduled.
  • Processes and reviews for accuracy accounts receivables and payables.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, relevant tax filings, and reconciliation and documentation of bank related activities.
  • Prepares annual 1099s and other forms.
  • Prepares internal monthly financial reports to account for revenues received, vehicle expenses, and capital leases.
  • Assists with preparation for annual audit.
  • Replies to miscellaneous requests from departments and employees.

About you

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Two (2) years of related experience in accounting, finance, payroll or bookkeeping; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
