Description

The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) regular, full-time position in the class of Assistant Road Maintenance Worker or Road Maintenance Worker at the Planning and Public Works Division of the Community Services Department. The candidate selected will be placed at the Assistant Road Maintenance Worker or Road Maintenance Worker level depending on their background experience, and at the discretion of the appointing authority. The salary range for each classification level is as follows:
Assistant Road Maintenance Worker: $45,614.40 - $55,432.00 Annually
Road Maintenance Worker: $51,022.40 - $62,004.80 Annually
The Position
The ideal candidate for this position will be a self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills that can follow written and verbal instructions, and will be a positive, contributing member of the team. Possession of a Class A driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles is preferred.
Assistant Road Maintenance Worker: Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair modification, construction, and operation of County roads; operates light trucks and applicable road equipment. This is the entry-level class in the Road Maintenance series responsible for performing routine and structured activities related to the maintenance of County roads. Incumbents report to Road Supervisor or higher-level personnel. This class is distinguished from the higher-level class of Road Maintenance Worker in that the latter is the journey level class in the series performing the full scope of technical road maintenance duties.
Road Maintenance Worker: Under general supervision, to operate a variety of heavy-duty equipment in the maintenance and construction of roads; and to perform other related duties as required.

Employment Standards

Assistant Road Maintenance Worker
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
Experience: No formal work experience is required. Experience in road maintenance or closely related work is desirable.
License: Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, Class C or higher at the time of appointment, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.

Road Maintenance Worker
Education: High School Graduation or possession of a G.E.D certificate.
Experience: One year of experience as an Assistant Road Maintenance Worker in Yolo County, or two years of experience in an equivalent position involved with the operation and maintenance of road construction equipment.
License: Possession of a Class A driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
Knowledge of: safe and effective operation of trucks and other light automotive equipment; road construction and road maintenance practices.
Ability to: operate assigned equipment with skill and safety; perform heavy manual labor; understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Physical Ability: Considerable lifting and carrying objects weighing between 15 to 50 pounds; straight pull, push, reach above shoulders, use of fingers; walk, stand, sit, climb, bend, stoop, and squat; walk on irregular surfaces; considerable use of both legs and arms; must hear well and have good vision.
