Job Title: Adapted Program Assistant
Schedule: Around 15-20 hours a week, including weekends and evenings
FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Temporary

Primary Function/Department: Youth Development
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under supervision from the Adapted Program Coordinator, the Adapted Program Assistant assists in the development and delivery of adapted programming for children living with developmental disabilities. The Adapted Program Assistant co-leads programs including adapted swimming, social/play groups, and the adapted gym & swim program so youth can learn new life-skills, develop relationships, and build confidence. Please note, this is a grant funded temporary position that will be funded until September, 2025.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist with the development, coordination, and direct support of programming for youth ages 5-17 years old who are living with a developmental disability.
Foster an inclusive and supportive atmosphere where all children feel welcomed and encouraged to participate.
Ensure safety and direct supervision for all program participants during activities.
Build strong relationships with families to foster trust and ensure open lines of communication.
Assist in evaluating program outcomes and adjusting programs as necessary to better serve the needs of program participants.
Does other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be 18 years old.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have at least 1 year of experience in a recreational or aquatic setting, including teaching children how to swim, leading sports instruction, etc.
Must have at least 1 year of experience working with children with developmental disabilities.

The employee needs sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Responsibilities require a flexible work schedule including evening/weekend hours and require travel to various locations. Must have a valid driver’s license.
