Cayuga Health Nurse Residency program transitions new graduates into our nursing workforce. The residency program offers multiple layers of support, including:
Hands-on training of clinical skills is front-loaded in the program to increase confidence at the bedside. Later classes include important transition topics like cultivating a health work culture, building resilience, addressing moral distress, educating patients and families, and growing your career at Cayuga Health.
Nurse residency cohorts start on predetermined new graduate hire dates, typically in August for May graduates and February for December graduates. Nurses start the nurse residency program after being hired for specific nursing units. To be considered for the program, you will need to apply to the designated residency program you are interested in. If you would like to be considered for numerous departments, you will have an opportunity to express your units of interest in the program application.

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide direct patient and family support and nursing care within their full scope of practice. This will include participation in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs and services for patients, families, and the community. The responsibilities will include the observation data collection, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patients' physical, psychological, emotional educational and spiritual needs as guided by an individualized and ongoing plan of care. The RN will work collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary team.

Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., Use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.
