Position Summary Description:The Safety Manager is responsible for creating, administering and tracking all safety programs, including but not limited to; training, incentives, processes and policies. The manager is responsible for understanding and interpreting OSHA, HIOSH, DOT and other governing body requirements relating to workplace safety and ensuring all components are addressed and observed within the organization. The manager also oversees all safety investigations, including injury and accident investigations. Also responsible for the filing and monitoring of claims. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Management of Safety Training Programs Creates and manages Safety Training Calendar to ensure all safety training programs are administered as required, while balancing the operational needs of the organization.Works closely with key management stakeholders to identify safety issues that can be addressed through training. Able to conduct needs analysis, design curriculum and impact organizational knowledge growth through customized safety training programs.Serves as lead trainer . Monitors and assists safety training around the areas of Lifting Techniques, Forklift Safety, and Smith System Training.Monitors organizational compliance with safety procedures and conducts training and emergency evacuation drills as needed. This also includes external training such as First Aid, CPR, AED, and BBP.Manages and monitors all safety incentive programs.Creates and updates safety related forms, policies and guidelines. Safety ManagementPartners with Human Resources to meet with insurance carrier on a quarterly basis to review open or complex claims.Works to complete the annual FSRM self audit.Serves as strategic business partner to Operations and other key departments to promote safety within the workplaceConducts quarterly safety audits and provides findings to Executive Management and Directors; recommends solutions and explains consequences of non-compliance.Proactively looks to leverage safety knowledge to create additional-value for the organization in the way of news articles, safety tips and quick-bite learning. OSHA / HIOSH / DOT Serves as subject matter expert in all areas relating to OSHA, HIOSH and DOT safety matters.Acts as lead person for any OSHA, HIOSH, and FSRM safety related issues or investigations.Regularly monitors safety requirements and legislation; works with key organizational stakeholders to ensure proper lead time and awareness occurs.Stays ahead of regulatory requirements and proactively seeks out ways for organization to voluntarily increase safety within the workplace. Partners with Warehouse and Transportation Managers to ensure employees receive and pass required annual training / certifications.Investigations and Data ManagementResponsible for filing and follow up of all injury, vehicle, and general liability claims and ensures the completion of the OSHA 300 log.Updates Management Safety Policy annually and informs all affected parties of changes.Conducts safety investigations in partnership with management, documents outcomes and identifies any process or policies changes that need to occur to address safety issues.Manages all safety related data and provides monthly and quarterly reports of incidences, costs, and figures. Generates ideas to mitigate loss exposure to the organization and implements preventative measures to avoid recurrence. Safety Meetings and Safety Committee Conducts regular safety meetings with applicable staff and management to ensure adherence to safety policies and requirements.Serves as Safety Committee Chairperson and encourages committee participation in safety activities.Works with the Safety Committee to establish annual goals and objectives. Ensures goal attainment is achieved. Provides regular progress updates to the Director of Training and Organizational Performance.Qualifications:Education/Training and Experience:Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Industrial Engineering, Occupational and Environmental Safety Management or equivalent experience. Associate Safety Professional (ASP) and/or Board-Certified Safety Professional (BCSP) certification preferred. Two years of relevant safety experience in OSHA or DOT regulated field. Must be able to display working knowledge of current laws and regulations. Two years of safety training experience preferred. Must demonstrate ability to speak in front of large / small audiences and have basic knowledge of adult learning techniques.
