Take the scenic route. With over 142 miles of Yellowstone's grand loop, the Transportation Department has the important responsibility of taking guests and deliveries where they need to go.

We’re hiring Interpretive Guides to Live. Work. Explore. this summer!

Job Summary:

As part of the transportation team, you're given the amazing opportunity to share the wonders of Yellowstone's greater ecosystem with our guests! All guides are responsible for the safe and proper operation of our company equipment and will be expected to drive in various weather and road conditions throughout the season. You will also help guests load and unload their luggage from the buses and be responsible for developing and maintaining a thorough understanding of the park's natural, cultural, human, and geologic history. We want you to be able to share that exciting information with the guests in an informative and entertaining way! Please see below for more specifics depending on the position.

The Details:Position Type: SeasonalSeason Dates: April/May 2024 - October 2024Pay: $15.25 per hourSchedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities

Non-CDL Tour Guide/Driver 

  • Safe and proper operation of company equipment in all weather and road conditions
  • Maintaining professionalism while working outdoors in extreme weather and during vehicle breakdowns
  • Loading and unloading of luggage
  • Providing courteous guest service and knowledgeable, interpretive commentary of Park features and history
  • Leading guided walks up to a mile or longer in length
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the natural, cultural, and geologic history of Yellowstone National Park
  • Keeping tours on a time schedule. Must be punctual
  • Prompt and correct completion of all required reports
Qualifications

Non-CDL Guide/Driver:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must meet all DOT physical requirements and pass a DOT physical exam. 
  • Pass all DOT required Drug and Alcohol Screens.
  • Must be able to drive for up to 10 hours with occasionally 15 hours of total work per day.
  • Must possess current 1st Aid/CPR certifications (training is provided).
  • Communicate effectively through speech and hearing.
  • Strong reading and comprehension skills to research tour information.
  • Able to organize information about Yellowstone National Park into an interpretive thematic tour.
  • Judgment and leadership to keep your tour on a semblance of a schedule.
  • Able to work without close supervision 

Physical Requirements include:

  • Able to walk up to a mile several times each day at elevations ranging from 5,300 feet to 10,500 feet above sea level.
  • Simultaneously steer a vehicle, shift its transmission, operate accelerator and brake pedals, and give commentary while driving in heavy traffic.
  • Able to bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lbs. simultaneously and repeatedly.
  • Withstand up to 10 hours of consecutive driving on rough and/or icy roads.
  • Able to work outdoors in variable weather (including rain, sleet, snow, direct sunlight, high winds, and temperatures ranging from -60 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit)
