Woodman's Bar & Grill in Orono is hiring a Junior Sous Chef. If you have the experience and skill set we're looking for, you can expect to start at $25/hour with health insurance benefits and 401k.

The “Junior Sous Chef” aspect of this position means you'll be:

• Creating, designing and preparing "fine dining" menu items & specials in tandem with head chef and sous chef while setting a standard of excellence
• Showcasing your Grill Chef skills (very important) with our menu and developing Sauté Chef skills.
• Training & developing kitchen staff to operate at the highest levels and reach their potential.
• Keeping the kitchen and equipment clean, organized and sanitized.
• Taking charge of kitchen opening, closing and other side duties as directed by the Executive Chef
• “Running” the kitchen when the Head Chef and Sous Chef are not there.

The "Managing" aspect of this position means you'll be:

• A part of Woodman's leadership team as we pursue our goals, tackle issues and engage our employees
• Setting a high standard for our team in terms of work ethic, product quality and communication.
• Collaborating with the executive chef, leadership team and staff on how to improve food quality, kitchen processes and customer satisfaction. 
• Managing operational improvement projects & tasks to completion.

Our small restaurant "group" recently purchased Woodman's Bar & Grill in Orono and also owns the (2) Moe's Original BBQ's in Bangor & South Portland. Our restaurants are dedicated to excellence in food, customer service and employee satisfaction.

We are 2-years into our mission to improve the lives of front-line service industry workers in Maine by paying a true “living wage” and creating sustainable “Good Jobs”. Our approach is modeled after MIT Professor Zeynep Ton’s book “The Good Jobs Strategy”. The book outlines how model retailers (Costco, for example) view employee wages as an investment rather than an expense. We pay higher wages, attract (& keep) great employees and operate more efficiently to become more profitable. We expect our employees to be engaged in the business by helping to improve food quality, customer service and operations. 

This will be the fun part for you. We don't expect "managing" to be covering understaffed shifts and making up for a lack of good employees. Operationally, you’ll love that we identify issues, discuss them, and fix them!

We are looking for a manager that can help us improve our operations, fire up our team, and help grow the business so we can make the investment in our employees pay off. We want to prove to the industry that this model can work!
