Position Summary:
The Electronic Resources Librarian (ERL) is responsible for managing the Acquisitions life cycle of electronic resources, including journals, databases, and e-books. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Access and Technical Services, the ERL is also responsible for managing serials, including ordering, receiving, and maintaining serials in electronic formats for all Willamette Universities Libraries. The ERL provides leadership and administers day-to-day operations in electronic resource management, working closely with colleagues in Acquisitions, Cataloging, library systems, and throughout the University Libraries system including the Law Library. This position requires excellent organizational and analytical skills, proven problem-solving capability, flexibility, and ability to meet deadlines in a complex, dynamic, and diverse environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Serve as primary manager of all aspects of library electronic resources including subscriptions, funding reports, consortial and other electronic packages, activating/deactivating, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborates with the directors of all WU libraries (Law, MOHL, PNCA) to establish standardized policies and procedures viable, while recognizing and implementing library specific processes when needed paying special attention to the unique requirements of law libraries.
  • Analyze and interpret electronic resource usage statistics, such as COUNTER reports and turnaways, in support of stakeholder needs and the University Libraries' strategic mission.
  • Negotiate pricing with vendors and publishers, ensuring contract compliance and maintaining ongoing electronic resource agreements.
  • Review and participate in triage problem resolution with public service and other staff across all WU Libraries as well as other Acquisitions staff for e-resource problems. Resolve or forward urgent problems as appropriate.
  • Perform electronic resources maintenance work including tasks such as link checking and maintaining the database A-Z list. Distribute problems and questions to appropriate staff.
  • Interact with subject area experts for collection development.
  • Manage electronic documents in compliance with FDLP guidelines for Law and MOHL.
  • Establish and document workflows, processes, and best practices for electronic resources acquisition, licensing, implementation, assessment, and budgeting taking into account the diversity of needs across all WU libraries.
  • Monitor trends and best practices related to electronic resource access, discoverability, data harvesting, usage analysis, and preservation to enhance library services.
  • Serve on relevant University committees and Libraries teams, as well as pursue professional development opportunities in consortial organizations
  • Other library-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Two or more years of library experience, and demonstrated interest in professional development that will enhance the candidate's value to the Libraries, the University, the profession, or the scholarly community.
  • Experience with electronic resource management, link resolvers, and proxy server functionality.
  • Commitment to delivering excellent service to all library constituencies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mission and functions of an academic library.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in evaluating the effectiveness of collections, processes, and services.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and issues relating to the lifecycle of electronic resources.
  • Knowledge of electronic resource content models, emerging formats, acquisition methods, and licensing.
  • Working knowledge of metadata standards and best practices.
  • Experience providing excellent user service and technical support.
  • Experience working closely with library resource vendors and billing departments.
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic access and subscription-related problems.
  • Conceptual and practical knowledge of various electronic resource management standards and tools including Ex Libris Alma
  • Consortia experience.
  • Experience preparing library systems and databases use analytics and reports.
  • Experience providing user support for library electronic resources and acting as point of contact for end user concerns
  • Experience with license agreements.
  • Strong communications skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, access and inclusion in the workplace or community.

Salary: $63,500
Typical Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday 8 am to 5 pm.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
Position occasionally requires reaching outward and above the shoulder and climbing, crawling, squatting, kneeling, and/or bending. Positional occasionally requires lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. and pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs.
