Summary

A non-exempt position reporting directly to the Director of Security or their designees. The Security Sergeant / Investigator, at the direction of the Security Director and or Lieutenants, conducts investigations relating to, but not limited to, reports of theft, workplace violence, assaults, vandalism.

Provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees, performs other duties as assigned. Duties and responsibilities are performed in an armed capacity in compliance with NYS licensing requirements and WPH guidelines.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following :

• Conducts Internal Investigations resulting from incidents reported or based that are self-initiated a result of risk assessments and quality assurance efforts.
• Daily review of incident reports from all WPH property on and off site, to identify patterns (theft, workplace violence etc.

and to ascertain if any additional investigative steps are needed, as well as to identify those reports that warrant further investigation.

• Prepares and issues written staff safety and BOLO informational bulletins.
• Assist in prepping and facilitating WPH staff for court hearings or Police Interviews.
• Investigates allegations to determine if an incident occurred as reported. Obtain all pertinent details and interviews with involved parties if necessary.
• Coordinate with law enforcement and the District Attorney’s Office to ensure proper charges are filed on offenders as well as maintain follow-up cases.
• Fulfills requests, approved by the Director or his / her designee, for video and / or security reports to include subpoena processing and compliance.
• Assists internal Departments, Human Resources / Labor Relations, Regulatory Affairs and Outside Agencies (CMS, DOH, Justice Center, Police Departments / District Attorney's), with investigations such as internal discipline, internal workplace violence, internal theft, and other regulatory or criminal activity incidents.
• Works with other WPH Departments and Practices to conduct security surveys and risk assessments, (on and off-site locations).
• Work with HR recruiters and leadership to review selected persons offered positions at WPH. Conduct background checks and provide guidance or advice to HR decision makers upon request.
• Surveys hospital grounds via the use of security cameras and physical patrols identifying vulnerabilities. Perform covert surveillance as warranted.
• Assists with and conducts readiness rounds.
• Prepares recommendations to the Director and Assistant Directors of needs, based on operational observations.

Identifying areas of concern. Maintains an accounting of incidents for later analysis.

• Perform audits of the CCURE system, card access system activity, etc. to ensure compliance and to identify suspicious activity.
• Conduct monthly checks of all security camera systems to ensure proper functioning. Notify vendors or IT for systems and cameras in need of repair or adjustment.
• Maintains, communicates and exchanges information with local law enforcement agencies.
• Demonstrates positive Customer Service, fosters positive employee relations, and adheres to the Customer Service Behavioral Standards.
• Performs other additional duties and responsibilities as requested by the Security Director or his / her designee.
• Be familiar with hospital policies and procedures.
• Must be flexible with the schedule, which may be modified at times based on need.

Education & Experience Requirements :

â Minimum 5 10 years of investigative experience at the rank of Detective, Detective Supervisor Investigator.

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• A current NYS Unrestricted Concealed Carry Handgun License. A copy of this license must be kept in the personnel file.

May be exposed to or work around chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet).

A copy of the SDS data can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
