White Plains Hospital is Hiring a Clinical Nurse Educator Near WHITE PLAINS, NY

As an integral member of both the Nursing Leadership team and the departmental staff, the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) acts as an educator, consultant, facilitator, clinician and resource person. Based on assessed learning needs, the CNE collaborates with the Health Care Team to plan, implement and evaluate educational programs related to the nursing department. Utilizing adult learning theories and current teaching methods, the CNE will coordinate (together with the Director, Nurse Managers, Staff Development Educator and Magnet Coordinator), the orientation program on the nursing units, as well as providing a variety of educational programs and in-services that assist staff members to acquire and maintain performance competencies. The CNE provides continuing education programs to foster the professional development of staff and participates in the development and implementation of selected projects/activities.The CNE is a role model for all nursing staff.

Position Summary

The Clinical Educator acts as an educator, consultant, facilitator, clinician and resource person for WPHPA. Based on assessed learning needs the CE collaborates with the WPHPA Clinical Admin team to plan, implement and evaluate educational programs related to nursing, medical assistants and other clinical departments. Utilizing adult learning theories and current teaching methods, the CE coordinates (together with the Sr. Director of Clinical Education, CNEs, Nurse Managers, Staff Development Educator, WPHPA Clinical Admin team and Magnet Coordinator), the orientation program for the WPHPA offices as well as providing a variety of educational programs and training that assist staff members to acquire and maintain performance competencies. The CE provides continuing education programs to foster the professional development of staff and participates in the development and implementation of selected projects/activities. The CE acts as a role model and resource for all nursing and clinical staff.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:

  1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors
  2. Participates in education programs and activities that promote the implementation of goals for the Clinical team in our Ambulatory practices (“WPHPA”).
  3. Identifies, develops, implements, and monitors quality and Performance Improvement initiatives to provide quantifiable evidence of progression toward the success and outcome of organizational goals
  4. Identifies and implements nursing evidence-based and/or best practices to develop Standards and protocols for the delivery of optimum patient care in the practice settings.
  5. Plans, implements and evaluates the orientation program for new staff members of the Clinical team in WPHPA.
    1. Assesses and meets identified learning needs
    2. Plans, implements and evaluates clinical orientation with Sr. Director of Clinical Education, and WPHPA Director of Clinical Operations.
    3. Identifies and establishes goals/plan to resolve performance problems during clinical orientation
    4. Assures appropriate documentation of orientation & competencies
    5. Acts as clinical resource/mentor/preceptor for clinical staff
  6. Provides educational programs based on assessed learning needs
    1. Provides educational offerings for staff as requested/required.
    2. Incorporates principles of adult learning and utilizes appropriate teaching methods in educational offerings
    3. Coordinates and/or provides in-service necessary for emergency response, new programs, policies, or equipment.
    4. Participates in the planning and/or presentation of Continuing Education programs.

7. Contributes to the development of standards of practice for nursing as well as medical assistant/patient care assistant scope of practice.

8. Acts as an educator, consultant, facilitator, clinician and resource person within WPHPA and interdepartmentally as appropriate.

9. Keeps current in Joint Commission and NYS 405 State Code requirements

10. Participates in ongoing Performance Improvement activities and initiatives as requested/ required.

11. Enhances level of knowledge related to role as an educator, clinician, resource and clinical expert.

12. Participates in patient care to maintain expertise and ability to function as a resource.

13. Promotes a positive image of the hospital, and the profession of Nursing to the Health Care Team, patients and the community.

14. Portrays a professional image through appropriate dress and demeanor.

15. Attends mandatory hospital in-service programs.

16. Maintains professional and specialty certifications.

17. Communicates effectively with all members of the health care team.

18. Attends meetings as requested/required.

19. Participates in committees, task forces, projects, etc. as required.

20. Submits all other work reports as required/requested by the CNO, Sr. Director of Clinical Education and Staff Development, Sr. Director of WPHPA Clinical Operations, Director of Nursing, or Magnet Coordinator.

21. Promotes professional environment and culture consistent with the ANCC Magnet Model.

22. Performs all other related duties as assigned

Education & Experience Requirements

1. Current NYS RN license

2. BSN required

3. Master’s degree in nursing (can be completed within 2 years of hire)

4. Specialty certification preferred; required within 2 years in position

5. Minimum of 5 years clinical nursing practice; Outpatient experience preferred

6. Current BLS, ACLS, certification required.

10. Able to drive/ travel to all WPHPA locations to support training needs

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment

  • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
  •  Position requires ability to frequently push/pull/lift heavy objects and lift patients. Performs difficult manipulative,

arm-hand steadiness and hand eye coordination skills.

  • Must be physically able to meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates ability to follow written and oral instructions required for the position.
  • Demonstrates ability to concentrate to fine detail with interruptions while attending to tasks.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze multidimensional problems into component parts and sort out tasks in priority

order to solve the problem.

Education, Training, Licensure and Experience Requirements

·Current NYS License

·Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required

·Master's Degree in Nursing required

·BCLS, ACLS required and PALS preferred

·National certification in area of specialty preferred, required after 2 year in position
