FILE: GBB TITLE: Director of Child Nutrition MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors Degree in Foods, Nutrition, Family and Consumer Sciences or Food Service Administration of hold a Bachelors Degree and an authorization endorsement for School Nutrition Program Director. Preference in selection a candidate will be given to a Registered Dietitian meeting all other qualifications. Meets applicable requirement as set form by West Virginia State Code/local Policy, including Policy 5202 (minimum of six semester hours in nutrition foods, and/or food service management.) Demonstrate good communication and organizational skills. Must possess competent computer skills and be able to perform computer operations in collecting and compiling of data in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. In addition to the above criteria the applicant will be evaluated on her/his ability to evaluated on her/his ability to respond to practical situations related to the specific requirements of the posted position. The evaluation will occur during the interview and throughout the selection process. IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Assistant Superintendent/Support Services and Facilities Management SELECTION: The position is filled by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools. SALARY AND Based on teacher’s salary schedule and approved EMPLOYMENT: director’s supplement. 250 day employment term FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Provide managerial and technical direction for each school by working with cafeteria managers and cooks to improve service, equipment, and efficiency, while providing the most nutritious meals for the best possible cost. Provide the opportunity for each student to receive a nutritious lunch and breakfast. Provide assistance for each school to provide accurate and reliable reports and records for the Child Nutrition Program. Maintain accurate and reliable repots and records for the Child Nutrition Program. Plans, evaluates, and distributes menus to the cafeteria managers in a timely manner. Administers program guidelines with federal, state, and local regulations, including but not limited to free/reduced eligibility, direct certification, verification, confidentiality, and USDA donated foods. Approve requisitions from cafeteria manages for the child nutrition consumable supplies for each school. Oversee inventories of equipment, supplies, commodities and other foods. Coordinate with the Director of Maintenance to evaluate child nutrition equipment in schools and assist with preparation of bids for such equipment. Implement and maintain computerized food service operations, such as point of service sales. Bid and order milk, bread, food, and consumable supplies. Develops a county nutrition plan as required by the WVDE Monitor school lunch programs to prevent health and sanitation problems and corrects deficiencies to assure compliance in all schools. Implement and evaluate extended day, extended year, and other after school programs in relation to child nutrition. Provide dietetic technical assistance to cafeteria managers and nurses to assist students with special dietary needs. Assist principals in evaluating and solving child nutrition personnel issues. Supervise the county schools wellness program Provide staff development and training programs for substitutes and full time child nutrition staff. Screen staff and makes recommendations to the superintendent for employment. Attend state conferences to acquire knowledge on state and federal regulation changes or implementation. Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the superintendent or immediate supervisor may from time to time assign. Revised: April 20, 2012
