    SELECTION: The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools. The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of and an ability to successfully implement the middle level educational programs and to deliver developmentally appropriate services to student. Preference will be given to applicants with successful middle school administrative experience.

    FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
    • Maintain the best possible educational program and environment within the middle school
    • Assume administrative and instructional supervisory responsibility under the supervision of the principal for planning management, operation and evaluation of the educational program of the school.
    • Motivate the performance required by students, faculty, and others directly concerned to develop and maintain a continuing high quality middle school.
    • Focus and direct attention on the unique developmental stages of each child, the need for personal responsibility and independence, the identification of a positive self-image and the necessity of experiencing success.
    • Develop a rapport in which students can have positive relationships with and among the school community.
    • Possess a clear understanding of the characteristics and needs of your adolescents and translating that understanding into a vision of an appropriately organized and effective middle school level.
    • Focus and direct attention on the unique development stages of each child, the need for personal responsibility and independence, the identification of a positive self-image and the necessity of experiencing success.
    • Guide and encourage the school’s professional personnel in their professional work and their professional growth, so as to secure continuous improvement of instruction and promote healthy growth and adjustment of the pupils.
    • Create an environment wherein teachers and pupils may achieve mutual understanding, a high sense of morals and the best possible working conditions.
    • Maintain a close and cooperative relationship with parents and community and interpreting to them the educational program of the school.
    • Submit recommendations to the superintendent regarding personnel as prescribed by the superintendent.
    • Attend meeting as scheduled by the superintendent or designee.
    • Serve on district committees to study policy questions, recommend policy revision and to formulate and recommend new policies.
    • Advise central office administrators of the strengths and weaknesses of present policies and the need for additional ones.
    • Involve teachers and/or students in the development of building level policies.
    • Communicate district and building policies to teachers, parents, and students.
    • Orient new teachers.
    • Schedule and conduct staff meetings.
    • Arbitrate disputes between staff members.
    • Acquaint the staff with their duties and responsibilities.
    • Organize and supervise registration, scheduling, programming attendance, grade reports, guidance reports, and district, state and national reports.
    • Take all necessary precautions to safeguard the safety, health and well-being of pupils and staff members, including formation of plans to meet emergencies.
    • Accept the responsibility for the administration and operation of the school lunch program in accordance with federal, state and county regulations.
    • Maintain student discipline in the building, on the school grounds and at all school events.
    • Supervise and direct a student orientation and registration program for new students.
    • Supervise the student health program including the reporting of accidents.
    • Supervise the work of the office staff and other noninstructional staff within the school assigned.
    • Inspect the building regularly and report to appropriate staff member a need for care, maintenance, safety and security.
    • Cooperate in carrying out building use permits
    • Prepare special reports as requested by those to whom accountable.
    • Maintain inventory of instructional equipment as established by district policy.
    • Supervise the collection, handling and reporting of school money.
    • Plan and recommend summer and vacation work projects for the improvement of the building and grounds.
    • Supervise the procurement and distribution of instructional equipment and supplies.
    • Supervise the guidance and counseling services and the school testing program.
    • Coordinate and Supervise student assemblies.
    • Administer the extra-class activity program.
    • Work with other administrators and learning area coordinators in the horizontal and vertical articulation of the educational program
    • Hold individual and group conferences and classroom visitations with teachers for the improvement of instruction and morale.
    • Serve on district curriculum committees.
    • Prepare an annual evaluation report for each employee who is supervised by the principal, as directed by the superintendent or designee and board of education policies.
    • Help plan, provide and direct the staff development for school personnel.
    • Evaluate and make recommendations with the director of athletics concerning the athletic program.Supervise the development of school bulletins and handbooks
    • Encourage publicity of school activities according to district policy.
    • Assist in district efforts to explain the strengths and needs of the schools
    • Facilitate community use of the school as established by district policy.
    • Maintain liaison with community law and other enforcement and welfare agencies.

    • Promulgate and enforce reasonable rules pertaining to the conduct of students and teachers, providing such rules are not in conflict with written district policies.
    • Supervise all West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission programs
    • Address site based management as directed for State Department of Education and county system.
    • Cooperate with curriculum contact person.
    • Direct and supervise tem leader coordination in order to establish specific program continuity.
    • Direct distant learning programs where applicable
    • Develop strategies to deal with a seriously impaired school.
    • Facilitate a program to encourage student involvement in co-curricular activities such as fairs, field days, contests, spelling bees and other available academic competitions.
    • Participate in parent conferences as needed.
    • Develop and create a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence facility based on effective local, state and national goals.
    • Utilize parent volunteers, tutors, business partnerships and other community resources to assist with the curricular program of the school.
    • Conduct one’s self in a positive professional manner at all times in order to enhance good public relations, foster loyalty, good ethics and cooperation with all personnel
