    FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
    The successful applicant for this position shall:
    • Possess Masters Degree and earned West Virginia Principal Certification for applicable grades.
    • Provide information regarding amount of experience relevant to the position.
    • Provide information regarding relevant specialized training for the position.
    • Provide information regarding the amount of course work and/or degree level regarding the position.
    • Provide information regarding past performance evaluations as an administrator.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge of Effective Schools/Teaching Research as it applies to the management of a secondary school.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience preparing a secondary school schedule.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience assessing the needs of a school, evaluating the effectiveness of school practices, developing school improvement practices,
    developing school improvement plans, setting goals, and to establishing policies to manage day-to-day decisions.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience holding staff meetings, assigning staff responsibilities, analyzing school personnel needs, and arranging for staff development training.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of how test data analysis can improve learning confidence and morale of students.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of how effective working relationship among administration, teachers, and parents leads to improved learning, confidence and morale for students, parents and teachers.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of how to write school goals and objectives following county specified criteria format.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience preparing, allocating and managing a school and student activities budget.
    • Possess basic operational knowledge of computers.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge of distance learning programs.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience in the development of site based management.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience in the process of developing mentorships for new teachers.
    • Demonstrate a knowledge of grant writing and alternative sources of finance.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience in school finance.
    • Demonstrate an outstanding performance and attendance as reflected by past evaluations.
    • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively through clear. precise writing, with a minimum of spelling and grammatical errors; and through articulate verbal skills.
    • Demonstrate ability to develop effective relationships with community organizations and leaders.
    • Demonstrate instructional leadership ability.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge/understanding and ability to manage department organizations in a secondary school.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge and/or conferencing with teachers regarding their performance in instruction and classroom management.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge and exhibits ability to interpret and implement policies, regulations and school law.
    • Provide evidence of knowledge and ability to manage effectively a comprehensive program of student behavior within the school.
    • Any combination of training and experience which would lead to a successful employment as a Principal.
    FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
    1 To maintain the best possible educational program and environment within the school.
    2. To assume administrative and instructional supervisory responsibility under the supervision of the superintendent for the planning management, operation and evaluation of the educational program of the school.
    3. To submit recommendations to the superintendent regarding personnel as prescribed by the superintendent.
    4. To attend meetings as scheduled by the superintendent or designee.
    5. To serve on distract committees to study policy questions, recommend policy revision and to formulate and recommend new policies.
    6. To advise central office administrators of the strengths and weaknesses of present policies and the need for additional ones.
    7. To involve teachers and/or students in the development of building level policies.
    8. To communicate district and building policies to teachers, parents, and students.
    9. To orient new teachers.
    10. To schedule and conduct staff meetings.
    11. To arbitrate disputes between staff members.
    12. To acquaint the staff with their duties and responsibilities.
    13. To organize and supervise registration, scheduling, programming attendance, grade reports, guidance reports, and district, state and national reports.
    14. To provide for the health, safety, and welfare of the students at all times.
    15. To accept the responsibility for the administration and operation of the school lunch program in accordance with federal, state and county regulations.
    16. To maintain student discipline in the building, on the school grounds and at all school events.
    17. To supervise and direct a student orientation and registration program for new students.
    18. To supervise the student health program including the reporting of accidents.
    19. To supervise the work on the office staff and other noninstructional staff within the school assigned.
    20. To inspect the building regularly and report to appropriate staff member a need for care, maintenance, safety and security.
    21. To cooperate in carrying out building use permits.
    22. To prepare special reports as requested by those to whom accountable.
    23. To maintain inventory of instructional equipment as established by distract policy.
    24. To supervise the collection, handling and reporting of school money.
    25. To plan and recommend summer and vacation work projects for the improvement of the building and grounds.
    26. To supervise the procurement and distribution of instructional equipment and supplies.
    27. To supervise the guidance and counseling services and the school testing program.
    28. To coordinate and supervise student assemblies.
    29. To administer the extra-class activity program.
    30. To work with other administrators and learning area coordinators in the horizontal and vertical articulation of the educational program.
    31. To hold individual and group conferences and classroom visitations with teachers for the improvement of instruction and morale.
    32. To serve on district curriculum committees.
    33. To prepare an annual evaluation report for each employee who is supervised by the principal, as directed by the superintendent or designee and board of education policies.
    34. To help plan, provide and direct the staff development for school personnel.
    35. To evaluate and make recommendations with the director of athletics concerning the athletic program.
    36. To supervise the development of school bulletins and handbooks.
    37. To encourage publicity of school activities according to district policy.
    38. To assist in district efforts to explain the strengths and needs of the schools.
    39. To facilitate community use of the school as established by district policy.
    40. To maintain liaison with community law and other enforcement and welfare agencies.
    41. To operate within budget limits.
    42. To maintain a school consistent with state law.
    43. To establish and implement an ongoing school improvement system.
    44. To create a climate conducive to teaching and learning.
    45. To implement a system to monitor student programs.
    46. To promulgate and enforce reasonable rules pertaining to the conduct of students and teachers, providing such rules are not in conflict with written district policies.
    47. Supervise all West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission programs.
    48. Organize and supervise North Central Accreditation Association on-sites and reports where applicable.
    49. To address site based management as directed from State Department of Education.
    50. To cooperate with curriculum contact persons.
    51. To direct and supervise department chairpersons in order to establish specific program continuity, where applicable.
    52. To direct distant learning programs where applicable.
    53. To develop strategies to deal with a seriously impaired school.
    54. To facilitate a program to encourage student involvement in co-curricular activities such as fairs, field days, contests, Spelling Bees and other available academic competitions.
    55. To participate in parent conferences as needed.
    56. To utilize parent volunteers, tutors, business partnerships and other community resources to assist with the curricular program of the school.
    57. To conduct one’s self in a positive professional manner at all times and order to enhance good public relations, foster loyalty, good ethics and cooperation with all personnel.
    58. To perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the superintendent or immediate supervisor may from time to time assign.
