West Cancer Center is Hiring a Specialty Rx Certified Pharmacy Technician Near Memphis, TN

Position Summary:  Specialty pharmacy technicians will work alongside a pharmacist to ensure that medications are safe and effective for the intended use. The pharmacy technicians will work to locate, dispense, pack, and label a prescribed medication for a patient that is then reviewed for accuracy by a pharmacist before being dispensed to a patient. They may also assist pharmacists upon request with any administrative tasks such as processing insurance claims, tracking inventory, and filing paperwork.

2-3 years of retail pharmacy experience and/or training OR equivalent combination of education and experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receiving and checking the validity of prescriptions
  • Responsible for processing prescriptions electronically and ensuring all information is complete and accurate
  • Locating, selecting, and/or measuring the appropriate medication and its dosage to fill prescriptions
  • This is a high responsibility job in which the technician shall have reliability, excellent communication skills as well as aptitude in using computers.
  • Maintaining records by recording and filing the prescriptions and orders of physicians
  • Sorting, stocking, and monitoring inventory
  • Responding to the requests of patients and healthcare providers, answering questions, and referring various inquiries to the pharmacist
  • Researches and interprets claims issues while ensuring good, accurate and timely customer service
  • Complying with rules, regulations, and procedures necessary to help maintain a clean and safe pharmacy, such as cleaning and sterilizing any equipment or workplace environment
  • Process prescriptions electronically and ensure all information is complete and accurate
  • Resolve issues when they arise (e.g., rejected insurance claims)
  • Provide customer service by answering phone calls in a prompt and courteous manner
  • Triage requests and prioritize them
  • Check for expiration dates on medications on a regular basis
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Qualifications/Experience:

Must have excellent organization and follow-up skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent problem-solving skills; ability to organize and prioritize work assignments; ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; ability to operate equipment such as computers, scanners, and cash registers; must know basic mathematics skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure; ability to work independently and efficiently; ability to analyze situations and respond in a timely manner; ability to participate in multi-functional teams; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within The West Clinic.

Must be proficient in computer applications including word processing and e-mail. Must have knowledge of medication and dose measurement; must have knowledge of pharmacy law and medical terminology. Must be reliable with a keen eye for details. Additional hours may be required.

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel:

  • Typical clinical environment with moderate noise level.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit and use hand/wrist, climb or balance, talk, hear, see for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work with fumes or airborne particles, risk of electric shock and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Ability to calculate weight-based dosing. Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics
  • Ability to apply understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in routine situations.
  • Respects the dignity and confidentiality of patients.
  • Maintains a excellent attendance record and report on time for work.
  • Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
  • Complies with clinic safety policy and procedures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Some travel may be required.
