West Cancer Center is Hiring a Chemotherapy Prep Tech - Midtown Near Memphis, TN

Position Summary:  Accountable for the accurate and prompt dispensing of drug therapy for patients. This position primarily involves preparing chemotherapeutic intravenous admixtures. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy Services.

REQUIRED:

HS Diploma or equivalent

2-3 years of IV mixing and related experience and/or training OR equivalent combination of education and experience

PTCB certified and equivalent

State Board of Pharmacy registration is required in state in which work is performed

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares chemotherapy and other IVs for patient administration
  • Restocks drug orders and supplies.
  • Monitors drug inventory to ensure that the department meets inventory goals.
  • Maintains all necessary logs.
  • Cleans and maintains pharmacy and equipment.
  • Restock and maintain crash carts, extravasation kits and tackle boxes at designated location.
  • Effectively communicates with pharmacists to verify orders.
  • Respects the dignity and confidentiality of patients.
  • Maintains a good attendance record and reports on time for work.
  • Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.
  • Complies with clinic safety policy and procedures.
  • Complies with USP standards 797/800 for sterile compounding.
  • Possesses good communication skills that lend to a team-oriented work environment.
  • Attends staff meetings as scheduled
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience:

Must have excellent organization and follow-up skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent problem-solving skills; ability to organize and prioritize work assignments; ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; ability to work independently and efficiently; ability to analyze situations and respond in a timely manner; ability to participate in multi-functional teams; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within The West Cancer Center. Must be proficient in computer applications including word processing and e-mail. Must know basic mathematics skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure.

Must have knowledge of medication and dose measurement; must have knowledge of pharmacy law and medical terminology. Must be reliable with a keen eye for details. Additional hours may be required.

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel:

  • Typical clinical environment with moderate noise level.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit and use hand/wrist, climb or balance, talk, hear, see for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work with fumes or airborne particles, risk of electric shock and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Ability to calculate weight-based dosing. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in routine situations.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping and repetitive motion
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, and measuring accurate doses on syringes; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Extended hours may be required
