Job Summary/Basic Function
Summer Resident Assistants are student paraprofessionals. Summer Resident Assistants are responsible for promoting a residential experience that cultivates a sense of belonging, academic success, personal growth, and acquisition of transitional life skills for summer residents as well as support the operations of summer conference housing guests.

Summer Resident Assistants fulfill the responsibilities of their role and the mission of the department by building individual relationships, facilitating peer connections, providing appropriate referrals, encouraging campus engagement, completing necessary administrative processes, and providing excellent customer service.

A competitive candidate for the Summer Resident Assistant position would be someone who has previously served as a resident assistant. Someone who has the willingness and ability to get to know their peers and help them thrive at Weber State, is willing to step out of their comfort zone, and actively engage with and learn from others. An effective Resident Assistant demonstrates maturity, personal responsibility, ethical behavior, friendliness, and willingness to learn, is highly self-motivated, has the ability to prioritize and organize time efficiently, complete tasks accurately and on time, and exemplifies a positive attitude.

General Responsibilities:
  • Attend and complete all required training sessions.
  • Welcome Summer Residents by participating in both check-in and check-out
  • Assist with verifying occupancy, issuing keys, and verifying key returns according to University Policies regarding key and access control.
  • Conduct walkthroughs of Housing facilities before and after check-in and check-out of residents to ensure the facilities are clean, furniture and equipment are accounted for and in their correct space, equipment is functioning correctly, and noting any damage or maintenance concerns, submitting work orders and documenting accordingly.
  • Serve as a part of an on-call rotation, including conducting regularly scheduled rounds of the facilities; noting and attending to maintenance and security issues, responding to emergencies, addressing and reporting safety and behavioral concerns, and providing conference guest services i.e. lock-outs, equipment check out, etc.
  • Build relationships with residents throughout the village
  • Participate and facilitate Summer Programs for residents
  • Assist both long term and short term conference guests
  • Perform additional housing related duties as may be assigned from time to time
Anticipated Work Schedule
  • Anticipated employment dates are approximately May 3, 2024 – August 10, 2024
  • Resident Assistants typically work an average of 20 hours per week but no more than 29 hours per week
  • Resident Assistants are required to live on campus in designated rooms in housing areas being used for Summer Housing
Compensation
The compensation package includes:
  • Monthly Stipend

Required Qualifications
  • Be a current Weber State student in good standing (Current student means being enrolled in at least 1 class during the summer OR be registered for Fall 24)
  • Be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week
  • Be able to provide excellent customer service and serve as a positive ambassador for Weber State University and the Housing & Residence Life department
  • Be punctual and reliable
  • Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking, good judgement and effective decision-making
  • Able to follow instructions and work cooperatively with others
  • Previous experience working in customer service or office-related position is desirable
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • This is a security-sensitive position. Criminal background check is required.

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision.
Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
