Job Summary/Basic Function
Resident Assistants are student paraprofessionals. Resident Assistants are responsible for
promoting a quality residential experience. This is done through cultivating a sense of belonging, academic success, personal growth, and transitional life skills.
Resident Assistants fulfill the responsibilities of their role and the department's mission by building individual relationships, facilitating peer connections, providing appropriate referrals, encouraging campus engagement, and completing necessary administrative processes.
A competitive candidate for the Resident Assistant position is someone who has a strong interest in building community and creating a welcoming environment, has the desire to get to know and support their peers, is highly self-motivated, has the ability to prioritize tasks and organize time efficiently, and exemplifies positive leadership traits both verbally and through demonstrated actions.
Required Qualifications
  • Full-time WSU Student Status
    • All candidates and current staff must be full-time students at Weber State University
    • Full-time status is defined as 12 undergraduate credit hours per semester or 3-6 graduate credit hours per semester.
  • Successful completion of at least 1 academic year as a full-time student (as defined above) at a college or university
  • Student in Good Standing with University
    • All candidates and current staff must maintain a minimum cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5
    • All candidates and current staff must be in good conduct standing with the University and
      Housing Department.
  • 1 academic year (or equivalent) of community living experience
  • Strong communication, leadership, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a Mentorship or Leadership role
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Knowledge of Weber State student support services

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision.
Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading., Required to have close visual acuity to inspect small defects, small parts at distances close to the eye., Required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services,) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection).
