We respect your craft and love to be challenged. Physician Overview With Substance Use Disorder being one of the biggest social problems in the Unites States, you’ll be able to do your most meaningful work as a Wayspring Physician. Wayspring is looking for a full time Physician to conduct patient visits in our outpatient clinic both in-person and virtually.The Physician’s primary responsibility is to facilitate the optimal delivery of care for patients enrolled in Wayspring’s Substance Use Disorder Home program as a covered benefit of Wayspring’s partnered health plan. This role will be an essential aspect of the program, to promote and execute safe and effective recovery plans for patients’ needs. The Physician will be part of a multi-disciplinary care team consisting of Clinical Care Coordinator(s) and Therapist(s). 

Responsibilities of the Physician 

• Provides direct patient care for Wayspring patients and care collaboration for complex patients with multiple needs, determines the best strategy and support for the patient to encourage engagement.
• Performs comprehensive health care assessments including medical and behavioral health history, physical examinations via in-person or telehealth platform, including MAT services.
• Evaluates and treats substance use disorders including screening, diagnosis, level of care assessment, initiation and management of medication for addiction treatment (MAT) and development of appropriate treatment plans.
• Provides evaluation and management of acute and chronic medical and/or behavioral health conditions as appropriate to establish clinical stability.
• Performs comprehensive health care assessments including history, MAT services, and physicals within the outpatient clinic to identify substance use disorder and medical needs. On occasion, some of these assessments are done virtually through a telehealth visit using simultaneous video and audio communication.
• Provides substance use disorder treatment care plans, including MAT where indicated.
• Provides clinical documentation of acute, chronic healthcare issues through the patient encounter in EMR system; Documentation must be accurate, high quality, and completed in a timely manner.
• Ensures that Wayspring’s Clinical Care Navigators understand and adhere to patients’ treatment plans and act as a clinical resource as needed.
• Conducts patient care through multiple mediums, including telehealth and in-person visits.
• Assists team in developing care plans for patients with complex needs to improve engagement and retention in treatment.
• Attends and actively participates in collaboration meetings, educational activities, internal clinical rounds, health plan correspondence, pharmacy correspondence, referral partner management, ordering labs and member goal tracking.
• Provides education on patients’ chronic medical conditions, preventative care, and medication adherence compliance.
• Adheres to Wayspring information security and privacy requirements.

Requirements & Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed MD/DO, Board Certified in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry OR Board certified in any specialty but has worked at a licensed TDMHSAS clinic (or another state equivalent) for 3 years with 6 months experience in a detox treatment facility
• Unrestricted license to practice medicine, include unrestricted DEA license in required
• Must be able to be credentialled with relevant health plans
• Experience with the prescribing of MAT for individuals with SUD including relevant assessment and treatment plan development
• Demonstrated domain expertise with a clear understanding of healthcare workflows and practical use of information
• Demonstrated experience with evidence-based medicine programs including relevant National Practice Guidelines
