The Medical Coder manages the revenue cycle, contracts management functions, and regulatory filing functions across the enterprise. The role will require recognizing and communicating ways to enhance business practice and efficiency and reduce risk. Job Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent Some college or higher education is preferred. CPC – Certified Professional Coder REQUIRED Experience: Medical Coder Minimum 3 Years in the healthcare industry, with an emphasis on Physician Billing. Proficient Knowledge in revenue cycle management, reading/writing contracts, negotiations, and process creation/improvement. Highly computer literate with proficiency in related business and communication tools. Evidence of strong leadership and teamwork skills Knowledge and Skills: Proven ability to influence business partners, lead change, and work collaboratively with all organizational levels to accomplish goals. Skilled in time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Highly organized with the capacity to manage work and priorities autonomously. Proficiency in medical coding systems (ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG). Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Familiarity with medical billing processes and systems. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in coding assignments. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills - Ability to work independently and meet deadlines - Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare providers. Transportation: Reliable transportation with valid and current auto insurance. Environmental and Working Conditions: Works in various settings and office environments, promoting functioning and coordination with all agency activities to ensure the highest level of professional care—ability to work a flexible schedule. Physical and Mental Effort: Must be able to work under stressful conditions and time constraints of the agency or projects. Work requires sitting for long periods of time, bending, and stretching for files and office supplies. It may occasionally require lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Essential Functions: Identify, develop, and drive process improvements, including creating standard and ad-hoc reports, tools, and excel dashboards to identify opportunities or problems, process improvements, and other system changes. Provides leadership and direction for revenue cycle initiatives by initiating collaborative processes to implement comprehensive and compliant revenue cycle procedures that meet federal, state, local and payor specific requirements. Assign appropriate medical codes to diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG coding systems. Review medical records and documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness. Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and obtain necessary information. Abstract relevant information from medical records for coding purposes - Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulations. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations. Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines and industry best practices.
