Human Resources Manager - Construction

Watson Civil Construction is a heavy/highway contractor working throughout Florida specializing in large site infrastructure, underground, and road work. We are a dynamic and rapidly growing company that is currently seeking a HR Manager to work in our St. Augustine, FL office. As a HR Manager in the construction industry, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the recruitment and human resources processes within the company. Your primary objective will be to attract, select, and retain talented individuals who can contribute to the company's success while ensuring compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of the construction industry and the ability to effectively manage both recruitment and HR functions.

Responsibilities:

Recruitment:

  • Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies to attract qualified candidates for various positions within the company.
  • Create job descriptions and job advertisements tailored to specific roles and departments.
  • Utilize various recruitment channels such as job boards, social media, industry events, college events and professional networks to source potential candidates and travel when necessary to attend recruiting events.
  • Conduct pre-screening interviews, evaluate candidates, and coordinate interviews with hiring managers.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to determine specific skill requirements and qualifications for open positions.
  • Negotiate and extend job offers, conduct background checks, and facilitate the onboarding process for new hires.

Human Resources:

  • Manage the overall HR function within the construction company, ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and programs to support employee development, retention, and engagement.
  • Administer employee benefits programs and coordinate employee performance reviews.
  • Handle employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievances.
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of employee records, including personnel files, benefits information, and attendance records.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and changes in labor laws to ensure compliance and make necessary adjustments to HR policies and procedures.

Training and Development:

  • Identify training needs within the construction company and develop training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
  • Coordinate and facilitate training sessions, workshops, and seminars.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make improvements as necessary.

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant employment laws, regulations, and industry-specific safety requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in employment legislation and communicate any updates or changes to management and employees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Proven experience as an HR Manager or Recruiting Manager within the construction industry.
  • Solid knowledge of employment laws and regulations related to the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with recruitment strategies and techniques, including online sourcing and social media.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in HR software and systems.
  • Willingness to travel when necessary.
