Description

*This is a full time position, 40 hours per week. This position starts between $26.29- 29.79 per hour. 

The Payroll/Benefits Specialist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll processing and benefits administration within the organization. This role involves managing employee compensation, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, and administering employee benefits programs. The specialist collaborates with HR personnel, finance teams, and external vendors to maintain compliance with regulations and company policies regarding payroll and benefits. They provide assistance to employees regarding payroll and benefits inquiries, resolve issues related to payroll discrepancies, and stay updated on relevant laws and regulations affecting payroll and benefits administration. The Payroll/Benefits Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering employee satisfaction and organizational efficiency by effectively managing payroll and benefits operations. Able to demonstrate knowledge of the labor law complexities of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This position requires a strong degree of critical thinking, attention to detail and time management.

Manages the payroll functions of the church and school, ensuring proper compensation of employees in a confidential, timely, accurate and efficient manner. Inputs employee records into our Payroll/HRIS platform. Disburses physical paychecks on pay day. Processes final checks when necessary. Maintains an effective communication and working relationship with the Director of Finance and our Payroll/HRIS service representative. Ensures the Payroll/HRIS platform is maintained to provide desired outcomes. Manages garnishment correspondence from various entities and ensures compliance with such orders. Complies with state and federal laws by the continual monitoring of time keeping records. Exhibit knowledge of governmental laws and requirements for minister pay and housing allowances. Continues education on changing payroll and benefit laws at both the state and federal level. Runs reports for the Director of Human Resources, the Director of Finance and senior leadership upon request.

Performs benefits administration, including processing enrollments/terminations, claims initiation/assistance, reconciling and approving invoices for payment, monitoring employee eligibility, communicating benefits information to employees. Ensure benefit deductions, 403(b) contributions, H.S.A contributions and other benefits are properly reported and reconciled. HRIS benefit plan management for 403(b) and HSA year end roll overs and accrual account management. Ensure ACA compliance. Be a resource for all staff with regard to benefits and questions as they arise. Assists with Open Enrollment, as needed.

Assists with orienting employees and supervisors with our benefits and Payroll/HRIS platform. Assists employees as needed with benefit, timecard and paycheck questions; provides explanations and conducts research.

Assures timely submission and reconciliation of health savings account and 403(b) contributions to appropriate agencies.

Verify payroll tax documents, including 941 tax returns, W-2’s, 1099’s, 1095’s and other related documents.

Responsible for the collection of Housing Allowance forms from licensed ministers. Accurately calculates the bi-weekly amount for reporting on paychecks and reconciles at year-end.

Cooperate and provide information for our annual workers compensation audit; for our annual bank audit; and for the periodic audit conducted by the state. Ensures the proper workers comp categories are assigned to each employee.

Qualifications


  • Associates Degree in Accounting or Business
  • 5 years professional payroll experience
  • Strong knowledge of tax and wage laws
  • High numerical aptitude
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and payroll practices
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer literacy, including MS Office
  • Experience with HRIS software and ability to learn new technology
  • Friendly, flexible, able to multitask, enjoys working with all kinds of people
