Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School is Hiring a Child Care Assistant Teacher Near Washington, DC

Job Title: Child Care Assistant Teacher
Department: Child Care
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Director of Child Care
Compensation: $43,865 - $54,262/Year
Position Overview: The Child Care Assistant Teacher provides support to the program by leading the team care for infants and creating a warm and safe environment If you have a passion for working in early childhood development (3 months - up to 3 years old), helping to care for and nurture the minds of children and have the required certifications, as directed by Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), this role is for you!
Essential Responsibilities, including but not limited:
  • Assist in the planning and conducting of an effective child development program to meet the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of each child.
  • Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and imaginative play
  • Assist in organize activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling and field trips
  • Teach basic skills such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, personal hygiene and social skills
  • Teach in ways that are interactive, hands-on, inquiry-based, and promote self-discovery and critical thinking
  • Attend to the infant’s basic needs, such as feeding, dressing, diapering, hand washing, napping, transitioning, etc. Ensure these child care routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic and consistent with good child development principles.
  • Communicate with the older children and their families, as outlined in the handbook

Qualifications:

  • Completion of at least 60 credit hours or an associate degree (or higher) in any subject area with at least 12 credit hours in early childhood education or a High School Diploma and a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and earns an associate degree (or higher) within four years of their initial date of hire
  • Bachelor's Degree in any field (with at least 12 credit hours in early childhood education) if preferred
  • Knowledge of Child education principles (Bronfrebrenner, Piaget, Maslow, Vygotsky, Erickson, Skinner, Gardner's multiple intelligence etc)

About Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School

From day one, when Yu Ying opened our doors to the first 130 students, we were the only public or private school of our kind in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Demand for Yu Yings innovative program has grown every year since, resulting in more than 600 applications for about 50 spots in the 2012-13 entrance lottery. Yu Ying utilizes the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme in a dual English and Mandarin Chinese immersion environment and currently serves students from Pre-K to 5th grade. Children in the Pre-K program are fully immersed in Mandarin Chinese each day o...f the week and Kindergarten through 5th grade students have all classes taught in English or Mandarin, on alternating days. Now in our fifth year, Yu Ying has already achieved high levels of academic, organizational and financial success. In 2012 DC CAS testing, Yu Ying students improved their overall proficiency by 7.4%, placing the school as the 4th highest performing charter elementary, language focused or not, in DC. Also standing as a reminder of Yu Yings rapid growth is the new school building and Nature Center at 220 Taylor Street, secured through the support of city, state and nonprofit agencies and renovated in 2012 as the permanent home of our elementary school program.
