POSITION: Special Education Assistant (2) – AST-0445/0301

• 3.5 hrs/day, 5 days/week*
• Hurffville Elementary School*

REQUIRED CRITERIA:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Experience working with children
• Ability to demonstrate proficiency in mathematics and ability to communicate fluently in English, verbally and in writing
• Ability to demonstrate basic tech skills on computers, tablets and laptops
• Ability to work well with other assigned staff to establish a positive learning environment for students
• Ability to work successfully with students with various disabilities
• Ability to physically perform job duties including standing, walking, running, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
• Ability to lift or move 40 pounds
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of students’ information
• Willingness to fulfill the specific performance responsibilities of the position as they relate to individual students’ needs
• Evidence of good moral character as determined by reference checks, fingerprinting review and observation
• Ability to work successfully with children with disabilities
• Willing to be trained in CPS and Crisis Prevention

PREFERRED CRITERIA:

• Ability to provide academic and physical support to students with disabilities as directed by the classroom teacher
• Computer proficiency
• Experience with school-age students
