Warner Pacific University is Hiring a Student Accounts Specialist Near Portland, OR

Summary Description: As the Student Account Specialist, you will serve as the first line of counsel to undergraduates, graduates and parents regarding the charges and credits to their university financial account. In addition to counseling, you will gain and develop a comprehensive knowledge of the business process by which students are charged tuition and fees. You will learn the principles of collecting, including understanding the practices of other campus offices (e.g., Financial Aid, Admissions, Registrar, etc.), and be able to clearly communicate these processes to the students and parents.Compensation Range: $47,000 - $51,000Primary Job Duties:Account Interpretation and Counseling
  • Audit student accounts to ensure timely and accurate refunds and collections.
  • Provide customer service by assisting students with interpreting the statement and financial aid award and addressing choices to cover outstanding balances.
  • Provide payment options and make recommendations to the student based on the student and family individual circumstances and financial capability.
  • Respond in a timely manner to student account inquiries and provide assistance as needed to resolve account issues.
  • Provide counseling to students and families regarding available resources to finance education.
  • Work closely with Financial Aid team to interpret and assist students with understanding their financial aid offer and net amount owed.
  • Participate in New Student Registration events to provide customer service by assisting students with interpreting the award and addressing choices in financial aid to cover outstanding balances.
  • Provide assistance to students in securing outside resources/scholarships/employment.
Collections & Billing
  • Manage the building and monitoring of student account records for current undergraduate students.
  • Oversee processing of student account statements to ensure that students are billed accurately and timely.
  • Manage in-house payment plan processing, monitor deadlines, and contact students when needed.
  • Contact and follow up in a systematic basis to ensure students (former and current) are making their agreed-upon payments.
  • Provide assistance with Perkins collections.
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Student Accounts with various collection and billing projects utilizing a variety of Excel spreadsheets for tracking.
Other Duties and Expectations
  • Assist in processing third-party billing and maintain correspondence with agencies that wish to assist students with account payments.
  • Oversee the processing of veterans benefits and timely billing to the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Cross train in Cashier duties to provide backup.
  • Participate in Accounting and Student Accounts meetings and programs; serve on campus committees, as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years’ experience in accounts receivable and/or collections position.
  • Experience in a professional office environment interacting with customers and accounting responsibilities.
  • Associate degree in accounting or associated field from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work with highly detailed and confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems, initiate and implement projects independently.
  • Ability to multi-task with accuracy and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in computer programs including Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and the Internet.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a higher education environment with financial aid and student services.
  • Bilingual – Spanish speaker preferred.
  • Experience using the Ellucian Colleague administrative system.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
