To serve as an advisor to student run organizations on campus. To provide guidance and assistance to the development of student leadership skills and opportunities.
• Serve as a resource person and/or advisor to campus student organizations. Provide student organizations with a wide range of information and assistance in developing leadership, organizational, political, and planning skills (e.g., workshops, manuals, one-on-one counseling).
• Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a wide range of student activities, programs, and services.
• Develop and modify programs and services in accordance with student interests and institutional objectives.
• Administer an operating budget in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Plan and administer departmental records systems and prepare administrative reports.
• Participate in the planning and implementation of major campus programs as assigned (e.g., Activities Fair, Homecoming, Awards Day, Special Weekends, Commencement).
• Confer regularly with other Student Life and university personnel to plan, coordinate, and evaluate programs and policies, exchange information, resolve problems, and the like.
• Serve on various committees.
• Keep abreast of current developments in higher education student activities programs.
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field, plus two years of relevant administrative experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. Must be accepted and admitted in a VTSU Masters Degree program for the duration of the 2-year position. • Strong interest in and enthusiasm for working with students. Knowledge of higher education student activities programs. Good program planning, organizational, administrative, and budget-management skills. • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of College students, staff, and administrators. • Good counseling/advising skills. Good public speaking and presentation skills. • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends.
Class credit, potential free housing and meal plan provided as well. Will be between 20-29 hours a week.
