VTSU is Hiring a Phonathon Student Leader-Student Employment (Workstudy Eligibility Preferred) Near Johnson, VT

The student leader is responsible for the day-to-day operation and planning of the phonathon program in coordination with the supervisor. In addition, the student leader will oversee the phonathon caller schedule and run the calling shifts as well as maintain and update statistical information. The ability to deal with any potential problem is vital to the success of the program. Must be able to work with and manage the callers in a manner that maintains high motivation, positive morale, and an ethical approach to fundraising.

Experience and Qualifications
Minimum of one year previous experience as a phonathon caller is required. Strong communication (both written and verbal) and organizational skills required. Must have and maintain a positive attitude, be comfortable and confident asking people for money; and be knowledgeable about activities/events occurring at the college. Must be able to deal with a wide range of people and personality types. Handle personal information with extreme confidentiality.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Open and lock the call center each night.
• Arrive 15-30 minutes early on scheduled work nights to prepare for calling.
• Assist the supervisor with setting up the call center for each shift.
• Maintain a clean working environment in the call center.
• Oversee nightly supplies, including forms and snacks.
• Assist supervisor with scheduling, including daily and weekly shift schedules, setting and enforcing break schedules, and keep attendance nightly.
• Manage each nightly calling team. Remember that we’re not calling just for money; we’re calling to create a rapport with our alumni.
• Supervise distribution of pledge forms to callers.
• Know and enforce policies.
• Monitor the callers’ progress and make sure they stay on task throughout the night.
• Remain visible on the calling floor throughout the shift.
• Assist the supervisor in identifying individuals who need additional training or encouragement and offer suggestions for improvement to team members when necessary.
• Evaluate the performance of the callers in an unbiased manner.
• Keep the supervisor informed about disruptive callers and/or good callers.
• Report any good tactics that result in more pledges/better calls.
• Conduct opening meeting, share who is being called, the results of the previous calling night, evening goals, and incentive information. Keep this meeting short and concise to assure callers will have as much time on the phones as possible.
• Conduct a productive closing meeting to discuss the evening, corrections, and acknowledge the good work that has been done throughout the evening, as necessary.
• Create a fun, productive calling atmosphere.
• Help plan and carry out caller incentives in a fun manner.
• Maintain and record calling results each night.
• Process pledge information daily.
• Sort forms neatly and precisely in the proper bins.
• Update and report out on statistically information.
• Update goal thermometer and communicate goals to callers.
• Communicate regularly with the supervisor about goals, problems, ideas, etc.
• Perform other essential duties as assigned.
