Pay Rate: $25-28/hr.

Full Description

VitalCheck Wellness, on behalf of Photon Medical Group, is seeking a culturally sensitive and compassionate Phlebotomistto join our team. Patient care will be provided in-person and virtually at one of NYC Health Hospitals’ Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers (HERRCs) making a difference in the lives of migrants.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of phlebotomist duties to include proper venipuncture, finger-stick and heel-stick procedures using appropriate techniques and perform set-up and completion of special test-related phlebotomy procedures utilizing appropriate techniques. Ensure that that all aspects of patient accessioning, specimen collection, processing, and distribution are performed properly.
  • Conduct patient in-processing prior to specimen collection, including review of paperwork accompanying patients and cordial guidance and assistance.
  • Provide technical oversight and training to ensure that all invasive procedures (venipuncture, capillary puncture, clotting time, etc.) performed in the laboratory are done in the safest, most sterile, and expeditious manner, with minimal discomfort for the patient. Training may include newly arrived corpsman, nurses, reservists, and American Red Cross volunteers.
  • Perform phlebotomy-related administrative and clerical procedures of the front desk section of the lab, fully document all samples obtained per the laboratory’s standard operating procedures, and assist in maintaining the supply inventory and cleanliness of the front desk and phlebotomy area.
  • Provide instruction on patient centered specimen collection (24-hour urine, occult blood testing, semen analysis, etc.) and special requirements necessary for laboratory-collected specimens (fasting requirements, special diets, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with contract requirements.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of phlebotomy experience.
  • A current certification and registration as a Phlebotomy Technician from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (PBT-ASCP) or as a Registered Phlebotomy Technician from the American Medical Technologists (RPT-AMT).
  • Knowledge and skills at obtaining and handling body fluids, tissues, and other specimens.
  • Proficiency with computer and common office equipment and electronic medical record systems.
  • Must be able to perform duties in a stressful and high paced environment without physical limitations.
  • Ability to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements to include potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.
  • CPR/ BLS certification.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse patient population.
  • Compassion and empathy for patients and their families.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a Plus.
  • Must be able to commute to New York City and Boroughs.
