Visionary Ophthalmology is Hiring an Ophthalmic Technician I Near Rockville, MD

We are seeking an Ophthalmic Testing Technician for our patient care team. We are looking for a talented individual eager to learn and grow. We will provide on-the-job training to the right candidate. Therefore, no experience is needed. The candidate will perform various duties, including extensive data-collection functions delegated by the physician and lead technician to allow for proper, professional diagnosis of patients' conditions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interacts with all patients using the level of respect and professionalism required by the practice.
  • Introduces himself/herself to the patients and briefly explains the test(s) being performed.
  • Explain to the patients what to expect from the testing machine
  • Has full knowledge of the office testing protocols
  • Perform accurate tests required for patients according to protocol and doctors' orders.
  • Performs sub-specialty tests (Pachymetry, Topography, Belin Ambrosio, Axial Eye Length, Fundus Photography, Endothelial Cell Count, External Photography, Humphrey Visual Field, OCT, Autorefractor, Lensometry) and any additional testing as needed.
  • Inform the patient about the process that occurs after testing is completed.
  • Learn and become cross-trained in other duties and roles to support the clinic's operations
  • Participate and complete all duties regarding patient care, such as prescription refills, prior authorizations, and checking voicemails and emails promptly and professionally.

  • Ability to achieve team goals while demonstrating organizational values and utilizing resources responsibly
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on a given assignment
  • Availability Monday-Friday and weekends

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Physical demands of this position: must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Must have manual dexterity to work with Ophthalmic equipment and testing machines
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds
  • Occasionally, be able to push/lift the patient with the assistance of other personnel and/or assistive devices, up to an excess of 400-500 pounds.
  • Must be able to maneuver a patient if in a wheelchair
  • Must be able to work in a dimly lit work setting
